According to Interment.net, the John S. Elliott buried in the Little Rock National Cemetery died in 1908 so it seems unlikely that he is the same man as the one married to Susan York. Betty

My Fergusons are in Bradley County. They were originally from York and Chester counties in South Carolina. There are two "branches" of Fergusons in Bradley County, just like the Bakers. My grandmother always told me that we were no relation to the other" Fergusons but in doing research, they are. I often wonder, why the split and why they disowned each other. I have quiet a bit on them so if you need something let me know. Angel

That census lists 8 children, the youngest 2 months of age. I have no idea why Elmira and Henry moved to Arkansas and cannot find them after that 1860 census. I did find 2 names that were the same as 2 of their children living in Texas in a later census but have no proof who they are. Elminee is the old fashioned pronunciation of Elmira. I am descended from her brother and will exchange info on her family for info on Henry's family, if you wish. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Every since I saw "Old Elliott Hill" mentioned, I started working on my Bradley County Elliott line. I found census records on my (from Ancestor.com) on my Elliotts in Palestine Township, Post Office, Johnsville. It seems that John S. Elliott probably died in the Civil War as he is buried in the National Cemetery in Little Rock. John was in the1st (Monroe's) Ark Inf. CSA. His widow Susan was living in the household of Jane Bronson in the 1870 census with her children Americus (Mericus-female), Nancy and Tabitta. Son Edward is not in the census. This was in the Palestine Township, Post Office Johnsville. In the 1880 census, Susan was living in the Palestine Township, Post Office Johnsville with children Americus, Nancy and Lila. Evidently Tabitta and Lila are the same person according to ages. Another Elliott was Spencer Elliott who was married to (Lamyra, Tamyra even Elmyra), in 1870, he was living in the Clear Creek Township, Drew County, Arkansas, Post Office, Monticello In the 1880 Mill Creek, Lincoln County, he was listed with children. Children were William F (went to Texas), Sarah, Joseph, Monroe, Mollie (Mary), Mattie (Martha), Fannie (Frances), Emma, Hays, Della. John and Spencer Elliott were sons of Edward B. Elliott and Nancy Spencer, who were listed in the Union County Census in 1840. In 1850, Nancy was in the Palestine Township, Post office, Johnville, with her children. Two daughters not mentioned were Sarah and Aramintha Ann (my great grandmother). Both Edward B. Elliott and John S. Elliott owned land in Bradley County. Edward buying in 1848 and John buying in1861. I know if any of this mean anything to any of you, I will be contacted. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty Finley" <bettyfinley@hotmail.com> To: <arbradle-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 26, 2008 10:01 AM Subject: [ARBRADLE] Old Elliot Hill > > Since Remona has information that Old Elliot Hill is "below" Johnsville, > it would appear that it would not be Holly Springs Cemetery. Since Remona has information that Old Elliot Hill is "below" Johnsville, it would appear that it would not be Holly Springs Cemetery. "Below" usually means south of a place and Holly Springs Cemetery is north of Johnsville.Betty

Author: hdavey Surnames: PEYTON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.bradley/3405.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: J Broadhead, The Peyton Society of Virginia has no additional info after the 1860 Census of Johnsville on Henry D. Peyton and family. In fact, our 2004 book, The Peytons of Virginia II only lists their four children listed in the 1850 Census of Ogelthorpe, GA. I note from the 1860 that Henry's wife (Elmira/Elmina) is absent. I presume she had died by then. Do you have the date and place of her death? Also, was the 7-year-old Elizabeth in the 1850 Census the same person as 16-year-old Jane in the 1860 Census? The 1850 Census shows the birthplace of Elmina (Elmira) as GA; I presume you have documentation that she was born in SC. Our book does list seven generations of ancestors of Henry D. back to Thomas Peyton Sr. of Bisley, Gloucester, England who was baptized 11 June 1580, Horsley Parish, Gloucester. Jann, Robert McClain here. There is a connection I believe in the family of Paschal B. Andrews. His son by Nancy Angeline (Reed) (Thompson) Andrews, James A. Andrews, married abt 1858, Ida Guinn, daughter of J. W. Guinn who later lived with them. James A. Andrews died before 1907 and she then married James' newphew, Robert Sterling Andrews, son of Robert Burns Andrews. Hope this helps.
