If there is anything you come across about the Temple or Morris family I would be very interested in the information. I am trying to connect the two early Bradley County Temple families Stanmore Temple and Thomas Temple. If anyone should have something that could tie them together "blood" wise. This article was taken from "Reflections", a column written by Mrs. Lois Newton that appeared in the Eagle Democrat. I thought it was very interesting. "There was a most interesting article about Longview on the Saline River, in a recent Sunday edition of the Arkansas Democrat. Perhaps many of you read it. I enjoyed it especially because fifteen or twenty years ago when I was teaching my seventh-grade Bradley Countians all I could learn about our county's history, and one of my young pupils, a little McNabb girl brought to school a small dog-eared notebook which she had found, among other interesting memoribillia, in an old trunk of her grandmother. This little book was one that Peter Fogle, a Frenchman who had a trading post at Longview, had kept. On one page would be the articles that he had sold to the early settlers of Bradley County and their prices; on the opposite page would be the things that Mr. Fogle had bought from the settlers, such as bear and deer hides, coon and mink pelts, deer antlers, tallow and so on. Over and over again I saw the names of Dr. Cabine or 'Dr. Cabine's slave' in that little book. The things that Dr. Cabine purchased the most were coffee, sugar, powder and lead, and occasionally a bolt of calico or 'linsey-woolsy.' My small pupil let me keep that book overnight, then she took it home. In a very short time the McNabb family moved away and I've never heard any further news of them, but I have thought of that book often, especially now that I have read that article in the Democrat by Glenn Martin and seen the picture of the marker with the Fogle name listed as one of the early settlers of Ashley County. I regret very much that we Bradley Countians do not take greater interest in the County's past. We have let slip away so much priceless history." >From my notes: Walter Barry Eugene Fogle was born on September 15, 1905 in Arkansas. He was adopted by William McNabb and Maggie Byrd McNabb. Walter Barry Eugene Fogle's father was James Mathew Fogle and his second wife, Mary Robertson Jackson Fogle. Notes from Diana Sullivan, Mary Robertson J. Fogle name was listed as Mary C. Robertson. James Mathew Fogle and Mary Fogle had a daughter named Gerdie/Gurtie Fogle. I know no other information on this daughter of James & Mary Fogle. James Matthew Fogle drowned on the river between the birth of Gurtie's birth and 1909. Mary Fogle passed away in 1909. Walter and Gurtie were shuffled around in a home or two. Then about 1910 or after, William "Bill" McNabb and Maggie Byrd McNabb adopted them. They were listed in the 1920 Census for Sumpter Township, Bradley County, Arkansas. Walter Barry Eugene Fogle took the McNabb last name. He married Carrie Orilla Gorman, daughter of William Mitchell Gorman and Martha Lavita McNabb (younger sister to William McNabb) in 1930 in Hamburg, Arkansas. Carrie Orilla Gorman was born February 12, 1902 in Arkansas and died on May 9, 1989 in Simsboro, Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. Walter and Carrie Orilla Gorman McNabb had five children: 1. Martha Joe McNabb, born March 1, 1932 2. Juanita McNabb, born May 3, 1935 in Jersey, Bradley County, Arkansas 3. Anita McNabb, born May 3, 1935 in Jersey, Bradley County, Arkansas She died December 12, 2005 in Minden, Webster Parish, Louisiana. She was buried on December 14, 2005 at the Woodard Cemetery, Taylor, Louisiana Juanita and Anita McNabb were twins. 4. Dorothy Mae McNabb, born February 22, 1938 5. Betty Ann McNabb, born March 30, 1942 Much of the information on this family is from Oscar M. "Wilkie" Wilkinson and Diana Sullivan. Coyal M. I seem to remember that one of the McNabb families reared a couple of children that were not their own, but can't remember who the children are.
