My great-grandparents were A.D. and Bessie Reddin. I always knew they lived in Banks. They were my grandfather Harvey"s parents. Last year I found out that my grandmother Robbie Reddin had family also in Banks. Her mother's family were also from Banks. They were the O'Neals. Her father was Williamson Redford O'Neal and her mother was Catherine McCloud.I have not been able to find too much information on them. If any one can give me anything, I would really appreciate it. Thanks , Sherri Reddin Jacobs
The 1910 census only shows Romie L., age 2, as William's child. William's wife says she has given birth to one child, who is still living. So it looks like the 1920 census has to be off for Otis's age. As for William's middle name, I noticed that he had a Social Security number (there is an entry in the SSDI for a William Hickman born January 9, 1887, which matches the WWI draft registration you found for William Andrew Hickman). Maybe William applied for a delayed birth certificate, which might also show his middle name. Worth a look? --Melissa On 1/24/07, bjw <jann_woodard@yahoo.com> wrote: > I don't know if this was discussed a few years back or not, but seems it might have been. I don't know if this was discussed a few years back or not, but seems it might have been. Either way I didn't keep notes at the time. Kate, I don't know if you received help on this or not and I am not able to tell you a lot, but in Vester's service registration he lists "Mrs. Ed Cooke" as the person who could always get in touch with him. I found him with his mother and siblings in 1920 and in 1930 he was boarding with the Luther Seymore family west of Warren. Vester's parents are buried out of town in Bradley County, but I have not obtained the name of the cemetery just yet. In doing some research in the 1910 census the other day I found the following. Calumbus (Columbus) Sharp Farmer Lou Sharp housewife Wylie Hampton age 12 servent black My Dad, the only living child of the above, said he knew some Hamptons around the Vick, Ingalls area but never heard his folks talk about having a "servent" when they first married. They married in 1909. I would like to know who Wylie was, does he have and living relatives, just a little about him. I am sure he just happened to be there the day the census was taken. Daddy did say that from time to time he would go to where the Hampton's lived and bring them to the farm to pick cotton or do other farm labor. Just curious about Wylie. Hi all, I have a new hard drive (refurbished actually - thanks a lot Dell!) and a new back up system in place. Please feel free to send me anything you would like me to post to the Bradley County webpage. As I mentioned before, if you sent me something in the last six months that I have not yet posted, please consider resending it to me. I have emails through November 10, 2006, but the attachments were lost, back to about August 2006. Thank you all for understanding and for your patience. As a matter of fact, John King's middle name was Wiley, so that is a definite possibility. Hope we can all find some common thread to find more about this King family. About the Witherington connection- Bill might want to research what Elias's function as an executor was and see how people back then were chosen to be executors. Some people have friends, church members and family do that, so maybe knowing how others in the community chose an executor of their estate might help us see a connection between Elias and Gus. They could have simply been friends. That's all I have to offer right now. Anne D. I notice from the information given about the King family that Elias King has a son John, born about 1852. I wonder if he could be the John W. King, born about 1854, who married my great-grandmother's sister, Ann Louisa Crowell in Bradley County, AR on 29 Jan 1878. I have no information about them after their marriage. Good to know what the monument says! There is actually a picture of it on the Bradley Co. website but you can't read all the details.. Nancy Douglas Wardlaw, my third great grandmother, was the wife of William M. Wardlaw who died in Greene Co., AL. in 1837. Jean Meaney
P.S. The monument states Nancy Wardlaw was the wife of W.M. Wardlaw Baker Peebles wrote: >Maybe this will help (or confuse). A Nicholas P. So Mary Hickman has daughter Frances Hickman and then after she was widowed, married Nickolas Jarrett who had a son William Jarrett by a previous marriage. The children were about the same age. Hope that clarifies. Jean Meaney
According to my database, Mary Wardlaw Hickman who is widow in Wes Jacob's Power of Attorney statement from 1856 married on March 12,1857 Nicholas P. Jarratt. Hope that helps. The Wardlaws moved from Abbeville, SC, to Greene Co., AL and then to Bradley Co., AR. Some of them moved on to Texas from Bradley Co. (I am descended from their sister Lucinda Wardlaw Hargraves who in 1856 was living in Greene Co., AL, but by 1860 was also living in Bradley Co.,AR. She died there after 1880. Would love to know if anyone has that exact date, possibly a tombstone location?) Hope that sheds some light! Jean Meaney
I found several entries on WorldConnect (http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com) that show Frances E. Hickman to be the daughter of Francis Marion Hickman and Mary Wardlaw. Many of them also say that Frances E. Hickman was a twin of William F. Hickman. Is William F. Hickman the same as William Jarrett in the 1860 census? Why would William adopt the Jarrett surname and Frances keep Hickman? I looked in the 1850 Bradley County census and see Francis M. Hickman, age 22, living with his father, John L. Hickman, and several siblings -- but no sign of Francis's wife Mary. Was she just overlooked in the census? Would love to have more insight into this family as well. I haven't looked in the marriage records to find a union between Francis Hickman and Mary Wardlaw. Wes Jacobs gives a deed citation from Greene County, Alabama, for this family: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=thjacobs&id=I03211 --Melissa Quoting bjw <jann_woodard@yahoo.com>: > I hope someone can explain the following census to me. Hello, Listers: I am researching the surname HEWITT in Bradley County. There is a James Allen Hewitt (about 60 years) living in Drew County; his wife's name is Judy. I am looking for his father, Vester, and mother, Lelia Clyde. She was married first to Hewitt, then to Slaughter, and last to Steel(e). She should be buried with Vester Hewitt. They are buried in Oakland Cemetery, Warren, AR or so I am told. Vester's parents are buried out of town in Bradley County, but I have not obtained the name of the cemetery just yet. Lelia Clyde died within the last 10 years, but Vester has been gone a long time. Can anyone help me find them. I appreciate anyone of you can give.
