    3. Betty: I am probably the person who started the questions on the Hewitt family. I don't know anything about the family: I am getting this for my son-in-law. His father doesn't seem to know much about the family and probably he doesn't care. But I want this for my grandchildren. I will be glad to share if they turn out to be related. William's wife says she has given birth to one child, who is still living. So it looks like the 1920 census has to be off for Otis's age. As for William's middle name, I noticed that he had a Social Security number (there is an entry in the SSDI for a William Hickman born January 9, 1887, which matches the WWI draft registration you found for William Andrew Hickman). Maybe William applied for a delayed birth certificate, which might also show his middle name. 3. In previous geneological research I had one line that married into a HUETT line. Though the spelling is different from Hewitt, people sometimes took liberties in spelling, so I'll some of the info here. SALLIE ELENA FRANCIS WIGGINS (born 1891 Ellisnore, Mo.), orphaned by 9 years old, was raised by relatives (LAWSON) for a while, and worked at a boarding house(prob still in Mo.) making 50 cents/week. Around 1910, SALLIE went to visit her brother HARRY WIGGINS, and sister JENNIE WIGGINS ROSS at the Crossett Lumber Camp, and met a young train engineer and blacksmith, DEE HUETT... 3 week courtship, then in Hamburg (also Ark), they married secretly. (my grandmother GRACIE McENTIRE WIGGINS), SALLIE'S sister-in-law sewed the wedding gown for her)...there's a charming story about their ride on a flat car of a log train to get to the wedding. SALLIE and DEE HUETT had 13 children between 1911 and 1936: ARTIE, ARTHUR, NETTIE, MARY, ORIE, OPLE, LOLA, FRANCIS "RUTH", JAMES, GLENNA, DENVER, FINIACE, and MYRTLE. 3. This is the marriage record that I think matches William and Caroline Hewitt: Book D, p. 317 Hewitt, Will, 21 Gonff (?), Lissie, 17 Jan. 12, 1899 I found the couple in the 1900 census. Lissie has given birth to a child but it is no longer living. (In the 1910 census, Caroline E. Hewitt has given birth to 5 children but only 4 are still living). I don't know what her maiden name actually is. I am just guessing that her given name was Caroline Elizabeth and she went by Lizzie or Lissie. 3. Vester's parents are William and Caroline Hewitt, is that correct? I looked in the Bradley County Cemetery book, Volume I, and don't see them. Perhaps they are buried in a cemetery which will be published in Volume 2. Mary King Barrett's obituary index shows that Vester Hewitt's obituary was published in the Eagle Democrat August 7, 1958. You can write to the folks at the Bradley County library for a copy of the obituary. I am not sure of the cost; perhaps one of the local researchers can chime in about this. --Melissa On 1/27/07, Melissa Jones Belur <rootsweb47@gmail.com> wrote: > > The Oakland Cemetery book shows > > HEWITT, Vester 1903 - 1958 > (Double Stone) > HEWITT, Lelia Clyde, 1923 - > >

    3. The Oakland Cemetery book shows HEWITT, Vester 1903 - 1958 (Double Stone) HEWITT, Lelia Clyde, 1923 - immediately next to SLAUGHTER, John Henry, 2-08-1915 - 10-12-1979 The book was published in 1995, which is why Lelia's death date is not given. SSDI shows LELIA C STEELE, born 17 Aug 1923, died 22 Oct 1995, last residence Monticello, Drew County, Arkansas Let me see if I can figure out Vester's parents from census records so I can look them up in the cemetery book for you. --Melissa > > Mary Burton <mkburt2002@yahoo.com> wrote: Hello, Listers: I am > researching the surname HEWITT in Bradley County. > > > > There is a James Allen Hewitt (about 60 years) living in Drew County; > his > wife's name is Judy. > > > > I am looking for his father, Vester, and mother, Lelia Clyde.
