    1. [ARBOUR] Re: Joseph ARBER m Birdie MANN

    3. Sorry, Lindsey, all of my ARBOURs are of French Canadian descent. However, I took a look at some resources on the internet and found some things. I found a Joseph ARBER, son of John ARBER and Margaret, born about 1871 and living in Brightside Bierlow, Yorkshire, during the 1891 Census. I found a Joseph ARBER, 29, Sarah ARBER, 25, and Joseph ARBER, 8 mos, listed in the 1901 Census. They lived in Brightside, Sheffield. Father Joseph worked as a fruit and fish dealer. I found a Joseph H (or A) ARBER living in Blue, Jackson Co, MO, during the 1920 Census. He was listed as being 21, born in Missouri, and working as a laborer at an oil refinery. Not sure if you already have this and if it's of any use. If you need more info, let me know. Good luck with your searching! 3. Regarding email from Sue: >I think a while back . . . I had emailed you with some changes, etc. > So right you are, Sue! I guess I didn't recognize your email address. Welcome to the ARBOUR List. Unfortunately, it is not very active. I think most folks are there hoping someone will post something. I wish more folks sent queries to our list. However, periodically, I do send out info and updates. Please feel free to add anything new you might find out. By the way, we only have about 10 subscribers. We are spread out over the US and Canada, though. Great to hear from you! Shannon ARBOUR List Administrator

    3. Hello! I am looking for a family that lived in Pownal Twp, VT, and the local area from 1880 through at least 1930. Some of them even lived in North Adams, MA. Can anyone help me with perhaps an obituary or even a death or burial record for any of this family? Moise ARBOUR (aka Moses ARBOUR) and his wife Melina VAILLANT (aka Minnie VAILLANT) were both natives of L'Assomption, Quebec. They married in 1861 and had 9 children between 1863 and 1880. In 1880, they left Canada and settled in Pownal Township, where they were listed in the Census of that year. Their children were: Moses Jr, Edward, Elizabeth, Joseph, Rose-Anna, Melina (aka Minnie), John Adelard, Lucy (aka Anna), and Albert. Moses (b Mar 1863) married Rheba ... in about 1887 and they had Addie and Fred. His first wife died and he married Mary ... in about 1900 and they had Harry, Henry, and Budgisol?. Mary had been married before, as she brought her children to their marriage, as well: Anna PARENTO and Victor PARENTO. Moses lived in Pownal, VT; Stimford, VT; and North Adams, MA, by 1911. He died between 1931 and 1937. Edward (b Jun 1965) married Anna ... before 1920 and they seemed to have had no children. Edward lived in Pownal, VT; North Adams, MA, 1911-1919; Mechanicville, NY, 1920-1930; and Bray, MA, 1931-1937. He died sometime after this. Elizabeth (b 06 Jan 1869) married ... WELLS sometime before 1893 and they had a daughter Elizabeth WELLS. Elizabeth lived in Pownal, VT, but little is known of her. She was buried in Hoosick Rural Cemetery in Hoosick Falls, NY, when she died on 03 Mar 1941. Joseph (b ca 1870) was alive in 1880, when he lived with his family in Pownal, VT, but nothing is known of him after this. Rose-Anna (b ca 1871) seems to never have married or had children. She lived in Pownal, VT, in 1880 and in 1920. Nothing is known of her after this. Minnie (b ca 1873) married Edward J. NADEAU sometime before Jul 1906, when their son Edward J. NADEAU Jr was born. Minnie lived in Pownal, VT, in 1880 and in 1920, but Edward does not seem to have lived with her. His whereabouts after 1906 and her whereabouts after 1920 are unknown. Edward Jr married Exilda LECLAIR. Lucy (b ca 1876) married Edward Joseph DAME in about 1898-1899 and they had 4 children before her premature death: Margaret, Eva, Edward, and Francis. Lucy reportedly died in 1907 and was buried in the Hoosick Falls Cemetery in Hoosick Falls, NY. Edward died in 1952 and was buried in St Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls, NY, after marrying Margaret Millett HEARN in about 1908. Lucy lived in Pownal, VT, and in Hoosick Falls, NY, while Edward seems to have lived continuously in Hoosick Falls. John Adelard (b 25 Jun 1878) married Rebecca G. ... in about 1902 and they had Gertrude and Harold, who both seem never to have married or had children. John lived in Pownal, VT; Bennington, VT, during WWI; Pownal, VT, 1920-1930. He died sometime after this. Albert (b 08 May 1880) never married or had children. He died in 1955 and was buried in Hoosick Rural Cemetery in Hoosick Falls, NY. He lived in Pownal, VT; New York City, NY, or Bennington, VT, during WWI; Pownal, VT, 1920-1930 and seemingly until 1955. Thanks for any shred of information about this clan, as I seem to have exhausted all traditional sources. Shannon Mesa, Arizona

    3. Dear Bob and Laurette: Very pleased to hear from you, as it is always nice to connect with another cousin! Just recently I heard from Bob ARBEAU for the first time. I am quite glad that your line has some serious researchers, as it is the only way to get to the bottom of this big mystery. I sure wish we had a little more documentation about Joseph ARBOUR (b ca1766). Perhaps it would make ascertaining his origins a little easier. Have you ever looked at land records? Do you have a death record? There had to be a church in his part of NB, don't you think? Was he Catholic like his ancestors? I look forward to pursuing this line a lot more. Please let me know what you discovered at the Fredericton Archives. Shannon :)
