My understanding of the Estes family is that it originated in England with a Nicholas Eastes b around 1522. I don't have my books out so don't quote me. Sometime around 1636/38 the story goes that there were 4 Estes brothers who left England for the "New World". 3 of the brothers stayed in the New England area and became rather successful in their own right. One brother is credited for being the progenitor of the "Southern Branch". Off hand I can't tell you the original source of this story or the brothers names. What I can tell you is that I descend from the southern branch. I have been able to paper trail trace my blood line to a Moses Estes who was the father of Gallant, Bethelehem and Nathanial. I descend from Gallant who was said to have been born around 1780 in Virginia. Moses is proving to be difficult to pin down I have that he was b around 1752 possibly in Va. or N.C. There are apparently 2 Moses Estes. No one as yet has been able to tell me if the 2 Moses are possibly one in the same or two different branches. Either way to prove we are of the origins that trace back to Nicholas Eastes my father took a DNA test and we are 100% related. Now trying to find the elusive Moses and his origins is our brick wall and we hope to one day be able to solve his mystery and finally connect to the other family members of whom we are genetically proven to be kin to. Sorry I have to cut this short, I have my mom on the phone. Chat soon hope this helps. Roberta, I think I can help with your Moses Estes dilemma. If you will go to the Marion Co AR web page and click on Links To Outside Sites, then click on Home Pages For Marion County, then click on Genealogy: A Reunion With The Past, then follow the trail thru the Estes family, I think Rhio has all the information you're needing. Feel free to contact Rhio if you have questions or problems. She's always more than happy to help.
