Hi Listers, I do lookups for obituaries and special newspaper articles. Please contact me direct [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>. Michelle
I am looking for any kind of information on the following: Willliam J. BATES and his wife Sarah Jane WELLS. I have their marriage and the census information and her death and burial information. I only have an approximation, After 1924, for his death but have not found where he is buried yet. He purchased property in 1876 through the Harrison land office described: E1/2NE sec 6 T19N R22W Carroll County. This location is in the Carrollton TWP that was barely across the county line when Boone Co was formed and since I believe his son (next on list) took over the farm when WJB died, this would be Long Creek area. The 1910 census also shows an orphan, Johnnie F. TAYLOR, living with the family. Willand Sarah had three children: William Zachariah BATES (full name from WW I draft registration); Mary E. BATES-Mar 1893 married unknown PORTER; and John Rubin Leslie BATES-11 Sep 1897 (full name from WW I draft registration. Nothing on him from that date.) William Zachariah BATES and his wife Mary F. Will was born 7 Aug 1890 in Boone County (believed to be Long Creek homestead), died 28 Oct 1948 Boone County but I have not found where he is buried yet. Mary - All I have on her is she was born in 1896 Tennessee (from censuses). They had four children which I have dates only from the censuses; Hattie Q. BATES-1914, Gladis E. BATES-Oct 1916, Walsie M. BATES-1922, and Juanita O. BATES-1924. Special Note: There is another William J. BATES in the Carroll County area before 1900 who is from Alabama, extremely close in age (Same Year), Married to Paralie PRICE-dau of Gov Sterling PRICE of St Louis, Mo and they have two sons, Sterling Price BATES and Robert Lee BATES, and a dau but offhand I do not remember her name. This family moved to Texas (Runnels County) sometime before 1900. A little more background: William J. BATES is the youngest son of Zachariah and Lavina BATES from York County, South Carolina through Madison County, Tennessee. Zach's family left Tennessee probably on a wagon train from Obion County, Tennessee probably late spring/early summer 1850. We believe they dropped out of the train in the vicinity of Carrollton with all but one son settling in Sebastian County before The War. The one son who was in Washington County before the War also moved to Sebastian County shortly after the war. All the boys were "drafted" into the Confederate Army in Sebastian County except for the one in Washington County. William initially tries to settle down in Sebastian County but for some reason we do not know about he files to purchase property in Carroll County (Before Boone formed) and moves up there but is probably still considered "transient" on the 1880 census and not enumerated. Will returned to Sebastian County not too long before he was d! eeded the property. Sorry for how long this is but this is all the information I have been able to find online and I live in El Paso, Tx.
