I am one of the descendents of Jonathan Sansing and Jane Adkins. My grandmother was Berta Adelaide Sansing (daughter of Gussie, son of William, son of Jonathan and Jane). Jonathan's father was also named Jonathan and his mother was a Cherokee woman. Jonathan Sansing Sr. died when Jonathan Sansing Jr. was a baby. We have been told that Jonathan Jr.'s mother also died, but not given the exact year. Jonathan Jr. was raised by John Sansing and his wife Phoebe Sansing (Piety Prudence Sansing's sister). I do not know the lineage of this John Sansing, but assume he must have been a brother of Jonathan Sansing Sr. or another cousin. I agree that John and Jonathan Sr. were most probably the sons of one of James Sansing's other sons. James had 5 sons. Piety and Phoebe were the daughters of Charles, so that leaves Peter, James, John, and William as possible grandfathers for Jonathan Jr. There is also the possibility that they were descended from one of James's brothers instead of from James himself. I have heard the story from the Adkins that the original Sansing immigrants were 3 brothers, but have never seen documentation on that. Does anyone have documentation? One of the lines I am investigating is the family of Francoise (Francis) Sassin, who arrived as an unmarried man in Jamestown VA 08-12-1700 aboard the ship Mary Ann and settled in Manakin Town VA with other French Huguenots. By 1714, he was living in Henrico VA with a wife, 1 son, and 2 daughters. I do not know where Francoise Sassin was living in 1720 when James Sansing was born in Surry Co. VA, so I do not know if Francoise was James's father, but the families seem to be linked through the Harris and Adkins families. Francoise Sassin's son Elie Sassain was born in Manakin Town VA between 1701-1714, married Susane Chastain, and had the following children: Pierre (Peter) b. 1729, Jean (John) b. 1732, Louy (Lewis) b. 1735, David b. 1740 (married Elizabeth Harris on 12-10-1768), Alexander, and Olive. These children spelled their surname in a variety of ways, Sassain, Sasseen, and Sassene. I show Elizabeth Harris's brother John Harris and his wife Obedience Turpine as the parents of Obedience Harris who married Lewis Atkins/Adkins. Lewis Atkins/Adkins and his other wife Susanna Horn were the parents of Zaccheus Adkins, husband of Piety Prudence Sansing. Lyle, are you descended from Curtis Joshua Gibson and Hattie Mae Hardaway? I do not have records on any of their children. Thank you, Elaine Lim -----Original Message----- From: Lyle Gibson [SMTP:ajanigibson@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 02, 2001 9:20 PM To: ARBOONE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ARBOONE] Sansing: Johnathan's Father Posted on: Boone Co. Elizabeth's daughters married men in Boone county: Blanch married Dr. Thomas Moss in 1874 and Alice married Brownlow Fletcher Stephens in 1875. (He was the son of John Stephens and Frances Griffith; several Stephens sons were doctors in Arkansas.) The Stephens' first child, Alexander, was born in 1877 in Hastings. In 1889 or 1890, Brownlow, Alice, and her mother, Elizabeth Jones Steele, died of either yellow fever or malaria. Dr. Jefferson Steele, Alice's younger brother, married Minerva and took over the guardianship of the Stephens children. Does anyone know more about the Stephenses, the Steeles, and the big cotton farm they lived on? Dear List Members, I am new to this list and am helping my aunt (Dolores Hutchison) with her husband's side of the family tree. Her deceased husband was Edwin Beal Hutchison and his mother was Delilah Ethel RUSH. Delilah's parents were Beal RUSH and Sarah L. CURRY. They were married March 8, 1868 in Tulare Co., CA. Their children were Elizabeth B. RUSH b. September 5, 1870, William Louis RUSH b. September 5, 1872, Charles RUSH b. October 7, 1874, Isaac RUSH b. abt. 1877, Ida M. RUSH b. March 2, 1879, James A. RUSH b. April 19, 1888 and Delilah Ethel RUSH b. August 8, 1890. All children were born in Tulare Co., CA. The parents of Beal RUSH were Isaac and Elizabeth RUSH and they would have been born about 1812-1818. On two different census where Beal RUSH is shown his father was listed as being from Tennessee and the other shows him from Arkansas. Isaac and Elizabeth RUSH's children were listed on the IGI as: John G. RUSH b. abt. 1838 in Arkansas, Beal RUSH b. abt. 1842 in Arkansas, Isaac Rush b. abt. 1844 in Arkansas, William RUSH b. abt. 1847 in Arkansas, and Carroll RUSH b. abt. 1852 in Arkansas. The names of Beal, Isaac and William Rush were on the Great Register of Tulare County, California in 1869 and there are land patents for them in Tulare County as well. Does anyone have any information about any of these people in Arkansas? Sharon "Shane" Oxley Sonora, Ca.
