Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Boone/10953 Surname: Van Zandt ------------------------- I am descended from Washington McMurray through his son Andrew Jackson. I would be interested in receiving any information on your direct line. You probably already have my family as it is on the Van Zandt website hosted by Jon Reed. I garnered a lot of my info from Steve Lawson, Ben Callahan and various other cousins as well as my own personal knowledge. If not I will be happy to send you my gedcom file. My great grandfather Otis Washington ran away from home as a young man and settled in TX eventually moving to OK where I was born. My Dad in turn moved his family to AZ when I was an early teen. Otis was actually a cowboy who rode the Chisholm Trail herding cattle until he married my great grandmother Ida Belle Nichols. Now I am discovering that his family was actually connected to the Nichols family back in AR but I don't know if he actually knew of Ida Belle before he met her in TX. Do you have any info on the Nichols or George families from Sharp Co., AR? Sincerely, Carol Vanzant Mattison

Hi, am sending this to several list in hopes of getting a reply. I found my gggrandfather's tombstone in Otero CO but it is simply a large star about 2' x 2' with the initials U S in the lower portion. In all the cemeteries I have been to, I have never seen anything like this. Even the cemetery caretakers had no idea. There is no info on his death certificate, he died 1931. I have not been able to locate an obituary. He was born in Indiana. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Sandi in Oregon

Posted on: Boone Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Boone/10949 Surname: ANDERSON, POTEET, NORRIS, TOMPKINS ------------------------- Lucinda Lipps may have gone to OVERTON Co TN about 1845 to visit her grandfather, 70 year old Gilbert Norris. What surprised me was how many family names there are on the 1850 Census for OVERTON. This is on the Internet. Unfortunately I do not know enough about these families to know who is who. There are about 30 Tompkins, a few Holmes and some Poteets (aka Petitt.) John Dudley Anderson is supposed to be the son of a Poteet. Interesting things to look for. On page 2b there is an eleven year old girl named Parilee Tompkins. You may remember that Lucinda and John named a daughter Emily Parilee Anderson. There is also on that page a Jacob Anderson 41 with his young family. Perhaps the most interesting is on page 47a. There is Jane Poteet 16 in the house with Dicy Anderson 60 born VA and Nancy Anderson 17. Lucinda and John are in Carroll Co AR in 1850, paying taxes, having babies and applying for land grants. I have heard John died in 1855. Seems a resonable time. Also Overton Co TN has posted the names with comments on the persons in the Poteet Cemetery. There is a Richard Poteet b 1 Dec 1811 in Overton who is said to be the son of Thomas and Jane Poteet. John Anderson was born about 1822. Nice to hear from you. dori dell@lafn.org

Since there are three families involved I need to do it this way. I have not been working very long on these folks and I have a bunch of stray notes that I am trying to follow up. Some one said that John Anderson's mother is Peegy Poteet. When I do not have ANYTHING I take what I can get and hope some proof (or justification) will show up. The Historic Genealogical Society of Marion Co has just published "Gleanings of Pioneer History" by W. R. Jones. Owner/editor of "The Mountain Echo" for many years, Jones memorialized much of the historical and genealogical data found in his newspaper in around 1928. Many of his stories were told to him by the children and grandchildren of the early pioneer settlers of the county. With basically no county records prior to the Aug 1887 courthouse fire, Marion Co researchers have leaned heavily on writers such as W. R. Jones for information that can be found nowhere else. "Gleanings of Pioneer History" officially goes on sale Saturday, 2 June, at the 12th Annual North Arkansas Ancestor Fair in Leslie. It's small, approximately 5" x 7" and soft bound. Society past-Chairman L. Don Ott transcribed it from the original. The cost is $5. It can be ordered directly from HGSMCA, PO Box 716, Yellville AR 72687. Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com

My great grandmother was a daughter of James and Francis (NORRIS) LIPPS, she was Emalie Catherine LIPPS and she married John V. LEATHERS in Carroll Co., AR 3 Nov. 1850. They bought land that remained in Carroll Co., after the county was devided. I have some information on your people, but not any back of John Dudley ANDERSON. I do believe that we have some connection with our LEATHERS familly with tha ANDERSON's before coming to AR. John V. LEATHERS had an older brother named Anderson LEATHERS, he died in Rutherford Co., TN,, ca. in 1838, about the same time his father James A. LEATHERS also died. His two daughters reseived an inheritance from James A. LEATHERS estate, it was the part that would have gone to their father Anderson LEATHERS. Does any one know of an ANDERSON ancestor in this line. I do know that my parents, grandparents and I have always lived close to people by that name there in Green Forest, AR area. I do have your people on my charts. Let me hear. Wilma

He and some of his children are buried in the Loback Cemetery which is in Section 21 where his son John Riley Lipps also patented land in 1854 and his son George Washington Lipps patented land in 1879. I seek any information on this family and specially on son-in-law John Dudley Anderson who died in 1855.
