Will someone tell me if PATTON Cemetery is located in Boone or Marion County, and the approximate location? Thanks, Mary Marler Winham
I am looking for ANY information on Parris J. Owens. Parris J. Owens married Elvira Hutchison, my relative, in 1861 in Newton Co., MO. He had siblings in Benton, Boone and Carroll County AR. He was murdered in Batesville, Independence Co., AR in January 1861. Oral history has it the body was returned to the homeplace on horseback. I cannot find a grave site in Newton or McDonald County, MO. Maybe the homeplace was one of these counties??? This is a mystery. Any help or information where to look would be appreciated. The Boone Co AR cemeteries are all on line at http://www.rootsweb.com/~arboone, Sue. It's very possible that you will find Emaline with Josiah in the same cemetery. And, you're right. Death records weren't required in AR until Feb 1914 - and even then lots of them weren't recorded because they had no "officials" like doctors, coroners, funeral homes to make the report. Deaths - like births - were a family affair. And the family knew all about it and that's all that mattered. Maybe someone on the ARBOONE-L list knows more about this couple than I do. How about it, folks? Searching for Joseph Dodson (possibly Joseph Eli Dodson) b. ab. 1870. I have seen two Joseph Dodson's in Eli's lineage, one without family information. I believe he is my g.grandfather who married Hannah Berthena Dodson b. 1872 Bellefonte, Boone Co., Ark. ab. 1893. I would like to make this connection and supply other Dodson's with missing lineage with Joseph. Joseph and Hannah had one daughter before his unfortunate death. Would like to share his story. Location: Worsbrough, England A lot of information is held in the Barnsley Family History Society. Here is a link: Swaithe Main Colliery Disaster - Worsbrough 1875
As an antique dealer, I run across some unusual items. I have a plate which was hand transferred in England in 1875 to commerate the coal mine explosion of the Swaithe Main Colliery. Several names are listed on the plate. I know these are probably not located in Boone County, but since many fathers, sons, and grandsons died in this explosion, it might shed some light on where they went. Hope this helps someone. If you need more info, contact me at rpsodapop@aol.com Reta In the midst of Life - We are in Death - & stand in joepardy every hour. In memoriam - The Swaithe Main Colliery Explosion - December 6th, 1875. The following names appear on the plate. The items in parenthesis is how the name appears on the list I obtained of those who died. A. Crackles, H. B. Akers, W Bray, J Brown, T Foster, A Dunk, H Marsden, J Partlett (Partlet), T Markey, T Lund, W. Whitham, A Semley, J Bailey, J Wood, W Nettleship, C Taylor, S Green, S. There are 146 who died and only 125 were listed so this is probably those who died from injuries from the explosion.
N Lockwood, WC Kendal, W Green, T Coxon, T Dover, J Green, C Hall, J Muldoon, R McNaught, T W Senior, J Winder, W Tyers, T Scholey, J M Robinson. The plate is fired pottery and I was told so many families were left without a man to provide for the families that the local religious order (probably catholic) printed two commemerative plates and the proceeds went to the families who needed help. I only had one plate. My family was in Boone and Marion County in 1840s so it didn't help me, but it might help you. Let me know if I can help. Reta DeShields Parton rpsodapop@aol.com
Does anyone have any information about a place called Mixes Creek in Boone County? My WILLIAMS family was known as the WILLIAMS of MIXES CREEK. I think Thomas H. WILLIAMS and son Samuel had a grist mill there late 1800s and early 1900s. Can't tell you much about Self, Boone Co AR except that I found it in DeLorme's Arkansas Atlas & Gazetteer. It's a tiny spot on a hill top west-southwest of Lead Hill - almost exactly opposite and to the west of South Lead Hill. It's on a railroad line (the old Missouri Pacific and Iron Mountain line) that runs from Flippin (in Marion Co) thru Bergman up into Missouri. Self is between Bergman and Omaha with Wooden Hills and Myrtle on the rail line between Bergman and Self. It's near Bear Creek and Barren Fork and Walnut Creek. Don't know a thing about its history, but at least with this info you might be able to locate it on a map. Oh, because the rail line goes right thru it, Self might had had some sort of interest in the zinc and lead mining era around here from around 1880 to 1920 and beyond. Maybe a freight stop with stores, hotels and stuff as a center for miners. It makes a sort of triangle with Lead Hill and Zinc - - - -.
