    3. Apparently there's been a mix-up in the address from which the newest publication, "Gleanings of Pioneer History" by W R Jones (owner/editor of The Mountain Echo), of the Marion Co Historical Genealogical Society book can be ordered. The correct address is: HGSMCA PO Box 761 Yellville AR 72687 The cost of this publication is $5 including tax and shipping. Our sincere apologies for any confusion this may have caused. It's a great little book with lots of interesting historical and genealogical information. Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com

    3. Vonda , I cant help you with your research, but you said connected to the Harps... Well my grandmother Louisa Mae Murphy dtr of Elizabeth Jane Penn and John Murphy. ( they are listed in the "A Reminiscent History of the Ozarks" ) I was lucky enought to get about 7 pages of My Aunt Bernice Martin Summers notebook of gen data.. In it she had listed that John Newman( who married Mary Murphy sister to Louisa Mae ) ( JohnNewman owned the Harrsion Times) was cousin to "Poppa" I have yet to figure out who Poppa was, was he John sr.Martin born Mo in 1850 or my own grandfather John jr Martin born 1871 In Dallas Co Mo and Married Louisa Mae 1898 in boone Co. Louisa Mae first married Frank Benson in Boone Co Ark 1894 (have marriage licenses/bonds for both. ) Louisa Mae married John jr Martin as Miss Beedie Murphy... Know they are the same because death certificate for Louisa Mae , filled out in 1958 in Upshur Co.Texas listed her parents as John Murphy and Elizabeth Jane Penn of Boone Co. My dad was born in 1910 in Boone co and he certainly knew who his grandparents were.Does anyone know who Frank Benson was did he die or were they divorced? Help!!!! 3. Ron, Given that Bolding could be Bolin/Bolen/Bolden and more, whyn't you tell us your "Grandpa Clinkenbeard"'s name? My Clinks were Cherokee, intermarried with Bilyeu, Harp, Moore, you name it. Henry C. b ca 1808 KY d ca 1852 Carroll Co. AR and his wife, Elizabeth Louisa Bilyeu b ca 1813 d aft 1870, are my 4xg grandparents. Now, there's a bunch of Clinks over in Douglas Co. MO that seem to be descended from the Dutch Klinkingbeard line. I haven't been able to connect them for myself, and I don't think they truly are. Most of us Henry C. descendants think he took the name when he needed an Anglo name. 3. Mysty, >>your two web sites lost me a ton of sleep last night<< Well, thank you for the compliment...that's the way I like it <VBG> As for taking Roberts' discussion offlist, I have a tendency--which Debra and some others can vouch for--of getting a bit wordy (there's those that say I'm being too nice there...). I don't want to offend anyone, but I'm realizing real quick that the Roberts' bunch is about as bad as my Wilsons (I won't do Wilson research, because I cannot keep them straight. David, David Wm., Wm. David, John/Johnathan Thomas, Thomas John, John Wm., Wm. John, and so on...this makes me glad to be a Vonda. I am also glad that it's my parents who are named Joe and Mary, and that I'm not their 3xg grandchild trying to figure out all the Joe Wilsons). If y'all truly don't mind, I really need help with this bunch, and I'm at my best when I can think out loud...and run stuff past folks who know the family groups. Keep in mind, I'm looking for Mary M. Roberts, born aft Mar 1873. This is one of the few times I'll be caught sticking to my guns on that middle initial or dob. Although I've yet to see it on tombstones or census records like a couple Mary Margarets I know of, I believe in this family's case, it could be Mary Malinda. I just don't understand how come there aren't any given names in this particular Roberts/Overstreet clan--Lula May, Sherman Lee, Elmer Everette, and Bertha Jewel-- that point the way. I realize not everyone names their children after kinfolk, but nearly every one of my other lines do. And none of Mary's children named a daughter Mary. Now I wonder if she truly died, or if she found another man. At this point, anything is possible. 3. Hey, Vonda and Debra - why take this off list? Researching Roberts' in this area is about as complicated and contorted as researching Jones, Coker, and Wood. Your discussion back and forth just might be advantageous to others as well as to yourselves. After all, isn't that what these lists are here for - to share and to try to help others? Just my opinion, but wish you'd think about it. Vonda, your two web sites lost me a ton of sleep last night <groan>. 3. Hi Vonda, I have a tie through a "grampa" Clinkenbeard who ties in with a Bolding line from AR and OK. He has always been sort of mysterious as there is no one who knows much about how he fits in... yet he was right there in a picture unearthed a few years ago. When you can, would you see if there are Stone or Bolding connections with the Clinkenbeards you have. I am in no hurry, just happened to read your information. ron

    3. Debra, Me personally, I feel the White River Valley includes all border counties in southwestern & south central MO, and the whole of northwestern to north central AR counties, including Madison and Newton counties. Pretty much anywhere the White is. I realize the Buffalo and a couple other rivers are involved there, but those rivers mostly feed into the White. The White is primarily an Arkansas river, anyhow--it starts and finishes there--but my ancestors just happened to live primarily on the MO end of it, for the most part (my Clinkenbeard bunch lived in Carroll and Madison counties in AR). However, with the Roberts family--right now, I'm concentrating on the ones who lived in Boone Co., east and northeast of Harrison. I may be totally barking up the wrong tree--but that's what I'm trying to find out. If someone can tell me what happened to the 2 Mary M.s b 1873 and 1874, daughters of Absolum & Zephaniah, respectively, I can either count them as "possible/probable" or rule them out entirely. What sent me down this particular path is a book written by Fred High and published in 1949, titled "Forty-three Years For Uncle Sam". I got a copy from Fred's daughter Darline a couple of weeks ago--she lives in Berryville. Fred has a section with over 2,000 names in it of living (at that time) kin, and my grandmother's uncles Sherman and Elmer Overstreet, and her aunt Bertha Overstreet Carey are listed. (Grandma's mother passed away in 1925) There is no other way my Overstreets could possibly be connected to the Highs, except through the Roberts' line. Darline told me that Fred's mother's name was Sarah Ann Roberts, who was married first to a Luke Blevins (and she bore him 3 children). Then she married Jacob High in Carroll Co. Sarah must have been cousin (a generation older) or possibly an aunt to Mary M. Roberts. There are no other Overstreets listed, nor is the connection explained. I have 2 possible Sarahs to be Jacob High's wife, who was b 25 Dec 1838 in IL. One is a daughter of John and Rachel Roberts, the other I found in the 1850 census in AR, b ca 1838. I don't have a connection established for John Roberts to the Boone Co. Roberts at this time. I do have the Haggard/Roberts and the Haggard/Oliver bunch pretty well filled out, but don't have the Oliver/Roberts connection. We might should oughta take this offlist. 3. Vonda, I get lost on my areas when you refer to White River Valley. Does that include Madison County too? I have a Roberts family that the father was born in Rusk Co. He married a girl with name of Oliver in Tn. Their first child was born in Tenn and the rest in Sebastian County Arkansas. I do not know if the Oliver's moved to that area or if they stayed behind. This Roberts and Oliver's were both 100 percent Cherokee. Their daughter, my grandmother said they were and she had a number as well as her entire family on the final roll. I would like to help and will if you can help me figure out where to look in my records about your Mary A. As a final note my dads dad was born and raised in Madison and all of the surnames ended up in Sequoyah Co. Debra

    1. [ARBOONE] Roberts information
    2. Vonda Sheets
    3. Hi, Y'all! I've been lurking a few days, but it ain't gonna get me any answers, so here I go. Kinda long, for that I apologize. My gg-grandmother was Mary M. Roberts, b aft Mar 1873 AR. She married George W. Overstreet 26 Mar 1891 in Stone Co. MO, as an orphan under the age of consent. A G. R. and Margaret White attested to that on their marriage license. She apparently died prior to May 1900, when George married Mary Ellen Yates Hammer, again in Stone Co. So she doesn't appear on any census records that we can look at and say, "this one is definitely ours." Mary Roberts is apparently quite the generic name in the White River Valley; there's a whole slew of 'em, so I've broken one of my own genealogical rules of changeable middle initials--I'm sticking to Mary M. Thanks to a lot of friends, I've been able to narrow it down to 2 in Boone Co. Any help on this would be so appreciated, you'll be able to hear me yell down there (I live in Taney Co. MO) If someone can tell me what happened to these two Mary M.s, I'll be happy. I still have more detective work to do on the collateral lines, but Mary M. is a mystery of over 100 yrs. standing in our family. BTW, she is supposed to be Cherokee, according to my grandmother, her granddaughter. Zephaniah Roberts b 17 Aug 1838 TN d 3 Feb 1905 Boone Co. AR bur White Oak Cemetery mar ca 1860 Carroll Co. This opens the Cemeteries page. Now click on "Location and description of cemeteries." The cemeteries are listed alphabetically so scroll down until you come to the two Patton cemeteries.
