Hi could some one help me. I done some research a few years back, started at Franklin Co.court house, then Madison, and then we went to a museum in a old school house, it had one room set up like the old one was. Then in one room they had a genealogy room, I remember I found some things. I found the deed where my grandmother had sold her 1/8 part of her fathers land that she had heired from. But I didn't make a copy of where it was or even the date. Boy you can do some crazy things when you just start out. So would any one know where it is and which county it was in. I think that we left Madison Co. Court house then went to it, on our way to Harrison, AR. I hope that some one out there knows where it was. I remember that it was a sure nice place, and the people was sure helpful. My grandmother was Arlena Kirk born 1865, married John Leonard Judkins, she was living in Pope Co. at the time she sold it. She is the daughter of Caleb Kirk & Ellender Durham, Caleb is buried in En! on Cemetery, Boone Co. I am Erma Lee Judkins Masters, in Dardanelle, AR. at judkins@cox-internet.com
Does anyone know who the parents/wife/children of Andrew J Riggins were and where he/they came from? He homesteaded 160 acres in 1875 in sections 28 and 29 of Township 18 North Range 18 West in Prairie Township - real close to the Marion Co border. Would appreciate any info on this man. I don't know where they lived in Boone--or if they were only passing through on their way to Texas. They could have lived in a near-by town??? Can you suggest how I could check where they were living at that time? I know that by 1892 they had moved to Texas. any help appreciated. Thanks, Mary Jo Grogan

FYI Since there is an interest in some of the books available for genealogists in the area I have a couple more to mention that may be of value to Marion and Taney county descendants. My name is Sheryl and I have been researching my Layton and Estes family for a couple years now. Last June I did some "field" research (sounds professional) in Taney, Boone, Searcy, and Marion county. I attended a Layton reunion in Branson where I met some far off kin. My Great Great Great Grandfather Dr.A.S.Layton's family was from Taney county, MO and there is a lot of interesting family history there too. At the reunion I met a gal by the name of Vickie Layton Cobb and she has written 3 books, 2 of which can be purchased through Arcadia Publishing. The books I am referring to are "Ozark Pioneers", True Ozark Stories which is 125 pages and has 100 photos. Some of the families written about are, Layton's, Coggburn, Smith, Whorton, Johnson, and Bollinger. It also talks about the Bald Knobbers of that time and place. The other book is kind of a follow up to Ozark Pioneers called, "Taney County, Missouri". It is 128 pages and has 200 photos taken in the 1800's and early 1900's. Names mentioned and photos are Whorton, Laytons, Vanzandt, Pruitt, Warner, Haworth, Pickett, Coggburn, Mahnkey and Jackie Breedon. I have both books and didn't want to keep them a secret if they could be of value to other researchers or family members out there. If I can be of any other help I'm here and will do my best! I also have Martin's in Boone County. James H. Martin was born 1854, believe in Arkansas. Have been told that his parents were Moses P. Martin and Cecelia/Celia Kerr from Tennessee, but I have not yet been able to make that connection. James H. Martin was married to Margaret J. Crabtree b. 1858 (she is buried in White Church Cemetery near Gaither). James and Margaret had the following children, all born in Arkansas according to the 1900 Census of Boone County: William T. Martin b. 1878 m. Stella "Stelly" Ledbetter John "Bud" Martin b. 1879 m. Minnie Morris Harvey L. Martin b. 1881 m. Mary "Mollie" Ladd Walter W. Martin b. 1883 m. Eliza Dabbs Jobe T. Martin b. 1886 m. Julia Ledbetter (sister of Stella) Susan A. Martin b. 1888 (never married) Mary Luticia "Tish" Martin b. 1890 m. James McManis Stella M. Martin b. 1894 m. Andrew Jackson Young Alberta L.
