    1. [ARBOONE] OBIT - John Bardell Stiffler ~ husband of Martha Ann Brumbelow
    2. TANEY COUNTY REPUBLICAN FORSYTH, MISSOURI THURSDAY MARCH 23, 1899 OBITUARY Whereas, on the 12th day of March, 1899, the Great and Supreme Ruler of the Universe has in His infinite wisdom removed from among us our highly esteemed friend and neighbor, John B. Stiffler. "Uncle John", as he was familiarly known, was born in Pennsylvania in 1818 but removed to Indiana with his parents when but a child. He then lived with his parents until he was grown. Like many of the pioneers of his day he sought the wild West and came to Southwest Mo. where he lived for a few years and then went to North Arkansas where he was married to Miss Martha Brumbelow in 1844. He then took up a home where the present site of Harrison now stands and where he remained until the breaking out of the civil war and like all good loyal men the southern confederacy was to (sic) hot for his blood and he was compelled to move out for protection and settled near Nixa, Christian County. He joined the militia and made himself useful in protecting his home. In 1866 his wife died and left him a house full of children to take care of. In 1867 he married Lucinda Farr near Nixa, Christian County. Uncle John moved to the Leonard McHaffie farm near Forsyth in 1872 and lived there about 13 years and by his economy and industry was able to buy a farm of his own. Uncle John was perfectly honext and upright in his dealings, he never went in debt or asked favors but was an obliging neighbor when he thought it was deserving. He leaves a wife and seven children with a host of friends to mourn his loss. A NEIGHBOR ---------------------- The above was intended for last week's issue but was handed us too late for publication. ---ED NOVEMBER IS NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE MONTH please visit my website at www.burningskyenterprises.com family album - http://www.geocities.com/ginaburningsky4/burningskyent_genealogy.html

    3. Marji, one of the first rules of genealogical research is not to take cemetery, tombstone, etc data as cast in granite. It's only as good and as accurate as the knowledge and memory of the informant - the person who gave the information about the deceased. Another rule is to make a copy of every single word/date when transcribing data - no matter how silly it may appear to be. Number 11 (Brittain Cemetery) translates to: E B Brotherton (Juck) was b 12 Aug 1900 and died 13 Dec 1978 and was the son of George Thomas & Melvina [nee] Sharp Brotherton. Funeral home marker. Marker No. 87. The *info/Harrison Times indicates data about the deceased was taken from the newspaper Harrison Daily Times [apparently an obituary]. Number 55 (Crawford Cemetery) translates to: Eula (Brotherton) Casey was born at Harmon [Boone Co AR] 21 Aug 1900 and died 28 June 1983. She was the mother of the survivors - rather than the wife or grandmother or sister or whatever. She is the daughter of George Thomas & Melvina (Sharp) Brotherton. She was the wife of Raymond Williams who died in 1936 and the wife of C C Casey who died in 1972. The marker is a funeral home marker. The information was taken from the Harrison Daily Times. For a possibly more accurate date of birth for these two individuals, take a look at the Boone Co AR 1910 and 1920 census. 2. Mysty McPherson
    3. Marji, you'll find these Buckleys in Sugar Loaf Township in Carroll Co AR in the 1860 census. They are not there in 1870. The reason for this is because the eastern portion of Carroll Co was taken to create Boone Co AR 9 April 1869. You'll find Sugar Loaf Township right where it's always been, but it's in Boone Co in 1870 instead of Carroll Co. Whoever did the genealogical work for the Internet site apparently was unaware of the county change and/or its date. Obviously, the second set of twins were both born in Boone Co AR. Hope this helps clear up your confusion. 1. [ARBOONE] Melissa Ann Roberts
    2. Vonda Sheets
    3. Marji, I have Melissa being the daughter of Andrew J. C. Roberts and Lucretia Ann Lawson. I've been exploring this family because I'm missing my 2xg grandmother, Mary A. Roberts b ca 1873, and since she was an orphan (supposedly) when she married my 2xg grandfather George Overstreet in 1891, she's been hard to nail down. There's a connection to the Highs in Carroll Co. AR as well. I've uploaded my GEDCOM to WorldConnect at Rootsweb, and you can see my research, which I just did this past summer before other stuff came up. Go to http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com and where it gives you a place to type in a database name, type in "vondak" without the quotes. The families were definitely Cherokee--I just haven't been able to prove it yet. Plus, there's only about 6 Mary A. Roberts b during the 1870s in this section of the White River Valley, and mine died before 1900--so I haven't been able to find her just yet. But I'm still looking... The interesting thing about this bunch is the Lawson marriage--there are Lawsons in Christian Co. MO, who are intermarried with another suspected Cherokee bunch, the Rollers. They lived near Pedlo Creek in Christian Co., and several of the Boone Co. AR bunch apparently lived near a Pedalo Creek in eastern Boone Co. as well. (I may have the creek names backwards, hope not). Some also lived in eastern Taney Co. MO. And my Roberts was supposed to be Cherokee. No red hair, but one of my other Cherokee lines did have red hair (the Clinkenbeard line). Not all Cherokee were dark. There's a bunch of Smiths in this line, as well. Andrew J. C. Roberts' parents were William Roberts and Mary Holder. Andrew's sister, Rachel, married Jackson Haggard, whose parents were John Samuel Haggard and Anna Hicks. Anna Hicks Haggard was probably on the Trail of Tears--she died in Taney Co. in 1840, and is buried in Casey Cemetery, near 2 of her daughters. John Samuel died and was buried in Roane Co. TN, according to another gedcom uploaded at WorldConnect. I could go on and on, but I won't <BG>. Let's just say maybe we can help each other out here! 3. I think you'll find that Searcy Co AR was created 5 Nov 1835 from Lawrence Co. AR. The name Searcy Co was changed 29 Sep 1836 to Marion Co. Searcy Co was created 13 Dec 1838 from the southern portion of Marion Co. Basically, what was first called Searcy Co had its name changed to Marion Co. Later, the Searcy Co of today was created out of Marion Co. Got this information from the "Biennial Report of Secretary of State, 1925-1926."
