    1. Re: [ARBOONE] Covington Connections
    2. Charles Whitsett
    3. Dear Gary: You are researching my direct ancestors, but you probably have more information than I. My grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Stafford nee Covington was the daughter of James Wesley Covington. She had sisters that I knew as Aunt Hattie and Aunt Fanny, both of whom often visited my family in Joplin, Missouri, when I was a child during the thirties. I think that these two sisters lived in McAlester, Oklahoma, at that time as did their brother whom I knew as Uncle Cape. I loved the times that Uncle Cape and Aunt Lavada, actually my mother's aunt and uncle, visited because he would let me ride in the rumble seat of his roadster. There was a family member named Eula, but I don't remember how she was related; I conjecture that she may have been the wife of Capres before he married Lavada. Mary Elizabeth Covington had married Robert N. Stafford by the time of the 1900 census, and she is listed in the household of her brother-in-law William M. Connerly on Line 28, Sheet 19, Enumeration District 29, Harrison Township. Mary again appears in the 1920 census with her husband Robert Stafford beginning on Line 56, Sheet 23B. James Wesley Covington's wife's name was Eliza Jane Allen. I take it you are somehow related to James W. Covington. I would be delighted to exchange data with you on his descendants that I know about. I would truly appreciate it if you could somehow share the photographs. Perhaps you or a friend could scan them into a computer and put them on a CD or Zip disk for me. I would certainly pay the costs. Or, if you were willing to do so, you could loan me the photographs and I would scan them, return them, and send you files on a CD. I can't be much help in identifying people in the photographs, although I possibly could identify some. I remember what my grandmother and Aunt Fanny looked like in the thirties, and I would of course probably recognize my mother. a granddaughter of James Wesley Covington, and her siblings if they appeared in any of the photographs. My mother had many photographs taken before 1925 of the Covingtons and their friends in and around Harrison, but tragically they were lost in a fire during the early forties. I have a few old photos that escaped the fire but which I cannot identify; some possibly (probably) have Covingtons in them. I think that most of the photos were taken with one of the first Kodak Brownie cameras. Sincerely, Charles R. 3. I am looking for anyone that is familiar with the Covington family of Boone and marion County's . I have been researching this family and have recently aquired a bunch of very old photo's I need help identifing. My lines are with James J. and Mary Haley Covingtons children. The photo's I have are of James W known as "Dutch", a son of James J and Mary. I have a few names on photo's and with a list of names from the 1900 Census I have been trying to piece these together like a puzzle. I have pictures of a Minnie, Ula...Ula I think is James grandaugter. Then I have a Mable and Fred....and a Frinny but I think that is a nickname, she is pictured with Ula or it is also spelled Eula. Most of the pictures were taken in Harrison. These photos were the property of Capers and Lavada Layton Covington. Capers was a son to "Dutch". I need much more family information to put all this stuff together and would love to hear from anyone that can help. I'm also very willing to make copies to share if anyone is interested. Capers had many sibling, some were born after he probably moved out of the house as a young adult. But I don't have a complete list and I need that. For instance I know there was a sister named Mary but she's not on the census I have. Oh, I also have a picture that I am almost possitive to be John Powell "J.P." with his wife Cuba and 5 of their children. I don't have a complete list of their kids and that is giving me a bit of trouble. The 2 oldest in the photograph are boys and then there are 2 younger girls and a baby about 1 that is a boy. In the Census JP had a child named Ethel and IF this photo is of JP's family then Ethel is a boy???? and what was the oldest sons name. This is all just an assumption until I can get some help!?!?! 2. WILLIAM WILLIS SMITHWICK m. 1st MARY JAMES. They had the following children, Edmond, Mary Annie Eugenia, Steven Dewitt, Elvenia, William Dawson. Wm W. SMITHWICK m 2nd to MARY ALBRIGHT. They had the following known children, Harriet, James, Callie, and an infant name unknown. William died, it is said in Boone Co Ark between 1884 and before 1890. The last record I have for him is the census of 1880 in BOONE Co. Mary Albright and her children moved to Italy, Texas, probably after William's death. She and the following children are buried in Italy, Jim/James, Callie, baby. I am trying to locate the children that may have survived. If any may have married in Boone Co. and stayed there.
