Lee, try the Carroll Co AR web page http://www.rootsweb.com/~arcarroll Death records weren't required in AR until Feb 1914, but many counties have cemetery records - as well as other sources of information that might be of help to you. If you have no luck with the sources available on Carroll Co - including an entry in their Queries section, try emailing the site coordinator directly for assistance. You might try the Morgan Co MO web page too. Some sort of record may have been made there, too. Suzie, all of the Boone Co cemeteries are online on the Boone Co AR web site. They're searchable by surname. Most entries have birth and death dates, some have spouse names and/or relationships to others (such as a mother and daughter. The Boone Co Genealogical Society has a new book out - "Boone Co Marriages." They've been working hard at this for a couple of years and I hear it's great. You can link to them from the Boone Co page. And you can link to the Carroll Co web page from the Boone Co page too. Hope some of this is helpful to you - and to you, too, Ron. I have a Index of my gr grandmothers' land, I was at hte court house once and looked up the records, where the property had been sold. There was 8 children, each one sold their 1/8 part of the property, If some one from this list was at the court house, please look up the record. Here is the property description. The husband was Caleb Kirk wife Ellender, Caleb died some time in 1870's, so I found Ellender Kirk in 1878, listed in Boone Co. land location, ( Section 18 Twp.20N Range 18W Acres 160 date 1878/ 12/20. I need a copy of where one of the daughters sold her 1/8 part of the property, she was Arlena I. Kirk Judkins. she was the wife of John Leonard Judkins, & was living in Pope Co. AR, at the time of the sale. I am trying to prove her as the daughter of Caleb & Ellender Kirk, for my DAR application. Thanks Erma Lee Masters, at 409 Quay St., Dardanelle, AR 72834, I will pay some one to look it up & make me a copy. If some one finds it email me & tell me the cost, I think it will be at Harrison, AR. Erma
Hi Sharon, the 1940 to 1997 is on line. I just checked that for Lee Bruce Manes and again under just L Manes. No hits for him. I would guess that he is in the part I check at the CA History Room. I have others to check so will be going there next week sometime. Be glad to look. That part covers 1905-39 in two large books. I will check both versions of his name. ron , you wrote: >Hi Ron > >Are the CA death records still on-line? > >I am trying to locate a death Certificate for Lee Bruce Manes who died >sometime aft Aug 31 1914. Lee, Having been born at Hot Springs, I am surprised to know there were healing waters anywhere else : ) I'm in CA now though and share some of the same frustration when it comes to deaths in AR. One of the wisest of the researchers in AR matters put it that there were no great records kept, that there were courthouse fires, and so forth. That was in the sense of local people passing on as I understood her . If your Abraham was a visitor who was in town for the healing waters when he died, I would think that there may be a better chance of some kind of record . Maybe I would look for the name of a newspaper in print at the time and try the inter library loan program so that I could look myself. You have the best of all things here... a DATE ! That is a great asset. I don't know where you are, but your local library probably participates in that and can help you find the name of a possible newspaper. All of the courthouses I have written answered and I always have enclosed a SASE ... recommend it. Some answers have been handwritten on MY letter to them and enclosed with a "good luck" from the clerk or even a "sorry" no record. I did get stiffed 3 times by the coroner for Arkansas County. After I get over being irritated, I will likely try again as I need an answer. I did find a researcher for the Little Rock archives and it was relatively inexpensive, but the source I wanted checked was not productive. Finally, I would check some history on embalming... I don't know just how long ago it was started, but there were mummies in Egypt so your conclusion in that area may not be correct. Speaking of mummies .... have you prepared for this SUNDAY? ron At 05:31 PM 5/9/03 -0500, you wrote: >Ron: > >Can you find anything on the death of Abraham BOWERS who died August 22, >1881 in Eureka Springs, Ark.? Glad to, Jody. The LDS Family History on Eastern Ave is a great asset and they were very helpful to me when I was getting started more than a few years ago. They didn't care that I wasn't a member, though some of the ladies would occasionally call me Brother Stone. (a compliment in my book) There is another in Elk Grove though I haven't been down there. I have also visited the one in Auburn and though smaller, it is a good place for local items. In the California History Room at 9th and I streets, a floor of the Library and Courts Bldg, there are reels of almost every newspaper in CA. I can't say all, but a whole lot. As you get back closer to 1900 they are more sparse. You sign a card with appropriate i.d. and that is good for a year. The staff are ALL good folks. In addition to the newspapers, the part of the California Death Index that is not on line for 1905 to 1939 is there to search. I've just used it for several people on the Boone list and have been able to go from that to actual obits and funeral notices. As you look around you will seen many books on the history of CA. Along one wall is at least 60 feet of 3by5 cards indexed under names. Some strange and wondrous stuff there. Assuming you have no problem getting around, this is a must place. Downtown also, the Central branch of the library has a genealogy floor on 4. But on 3 there are reels of the Sacramento County papers. I was just there to find some items for others on the Boone list. As usual, when you start answering questions, you learn yourself... so I just found out that there had been a newspaper in Galt... about as far south as Sacramento County goes. That same Central library will help you find the names of newspapers in print all over the country. That means not only current, but historically. There is a service offered at a nominal charge that I have used a few times. The last was to get 3 reels of the Arkansas Gazette on the inter-library loan plan. I used their viewers to run thru them and look for articles on a particular matter in the family history in the Stuttgart area in the early 1900s. Finally, the County Clerk has an office a block north of the courthouse. There are items of Sacramento such as indexes of death, marriage , etc. Once the reference points are found on the microfiche, the reels can be review to copy off the information. This is a great place to look. I am not aware of all of the particulars, but some folks tell me that the concern for "identity theft" as a crime is going to throw a large roadblock in our access to research tools pretty soon. Wish it weren't the case, but it looks to me like the "vandal" wins again. If you remember how the WHOLE CLASS would be kept in or otherwise punished by some teachers for the lack of civility of one or two kids, you can imagine just how IRRITATED that approach still makes me.... but I understand the legislature is doing just that kind of approach to "saving us" from the identity thieves. Vandals 1 Honest folks 0 legislators, no heavy thinking just jerk those knees. Seeking any info on family of Bird C Rice. I am attempting to locate the RICE family that my great grandaunt,Laura MANES married into. She m. 24 Dec 1883 to an unknown Mr. Rice. They had a son: Isaac M RICE b. sep 1886. My Laura Manes b. 1866-67 in Boone Co AR and died after Isaac was born. I do NOT have any info on the RICE Family. Except that Laura Manes m. one & had a son and died. Bird C Rice was killed during the Civil War and I am wondering if one of his descendants may have m. Laura. Thank you Sharon in AZ texsam@cox.net
Actually I was wondering if anyone on the list has purchased the new Boone County Marriage Book "Marriage Records of Boone County Arkansas, 1869 - 1916". from the Boone County Genealogy Society And if so if they were willing to do lookups? Thanks to all the Boone Co listers. I am on the list. Judy
What I meant to convey in my former email is that I wasn't sure I was still on the list. Thanks, Judy
