    2. I am still chasing a story in my family history. Arkansas Research has a newer book which is from the Clay County Courier Newspaper. In the State News on July 28, 1905 it states: The wife and five-year-old daughter of Cebe DeShields of Lead Hill were drowned in West Sugar Loaf Creek, Marion County, a few days ago, while attempting to cross the stream. Now these state news areas of the paper were usually items gathered from other local papers. I was of the understanding the drowning happened on July 4, 1905. Does anyone know of a newspaper which was operating in this area (Lead Hill) from July 4, 1905 to July 28, 1905? If so, please let me know and if you have availability of a lookup, I would like to receive more information so I can confirm the date. The end result is hopefully to find out the child's name so we can put a marker on her grave. 3. Does the Boone County Historical Society have a connection also to the Library? I guess what I am wanting to know is does the Boone County Library or Society accept acestory chart printouts from members for inclusion in their genealogical section? I recently sent a printout to Taney County of my mom's ancestors. However some of her family was also from Boone Co AR. Surnames & Allied Lines: MANES, BROWN, THURMAN, RICE, DUNLAP, McNAIR, HILL,MAYNARD. MEAD or MAY. Also my apoligies to the list master as I think I accidently fwd a msg to ARBOONE which was not intended for this list and was inappropriate to it. My sincere regrets for that oversight. Thank you, Sharon Fulton texsam@cox.net Scottsdale, AZ

    3. Hi Cynthia, Well, a bit better luck with Cammie B Sauer and Carol Frances Eitel. The Oakland Tribune had funeral notices for each at the times of their deaths. I made copies , and they can be mailed to your snail mail address. NOTE THAT I do suggest that you send your address only to me, or it will be archived forever in the list annals. I did cc the list on this so as to encourage anyone else who needs help in CA to see if I can assist. ron in CA At 10:41 PM 8/22/03 EDT, you wrote: >BOY OH BOY! 2. Has anyone got Arkansas Research News book titled The Grim Reaper's Footsteps Across the Nation As Mentioned in The Clay County (Arkansas) Courier Newspaper, 1893-1925 I know this is the wrong county, but a question I have been asking for a long time about Cebe DeShields who was in this county may be answered in this book. It is $59.50 or I would buy it myself (have to budget that) If anyone has it, the page is 103 and it tells about Sarah and his daughter dying. I would like to see what it says if anyone can help. 3. Ron and Cynthia If the state death indexes says she died in Alameda County, and the county recorder does not have a death certificate for her, it is possible that the death certificate was amended for some reason or that there was a problem with the death certificate. When you amend a death certificate in California, you do it through the state, not the county, and the county record is pulled back to the state, so that if in a few years someone tried to get a death certificate from the county, there would be no record there. Unfortunately, you would have to get the death record from the state then. I have amended both my mother's death certificate and also my husband's death certificate. Both were pulled from Sacramento County recorder's office and are no longer there. And unfortunately when ordering a copy of a death certificate from CA state vitals, it takes months. You can go down there and get one in a few days, but takes forever by mail. Also remember that even though she might have died in Alameda County, she may not have actually lived in Alameda Co, maybe just in the hospital or a facility there or visiting a family member. The obit notice may have been in the local newspaper where she actually had lived or family lived. My g grandmother died in Santa Cruz County while on vacation from an accident and there were numerous blurbs in the Fresno County, CA papers, but nothing in Santa Cruz paper. Hope this helps. 3. Hi Cynthia, I went to the CA History Room today. I checked the Oakland (CA) Tribune reel from May 3 to May 15, 1933 and did not find an article I then checked the Alameda Times Star from May 3 to May 15, 1933 and again had no finding That was all there was for that time era covering Alameda Co. Did you say that the Co of Alameda said they had no record of the death? I did check the big book and she plainly is listed as having died in Alameda Co and that she had a spouse by the initials J.A. She was 78 at death. It might be worth re checking the clerk-recorder's office in the Alameda County goverment. You had mentioned Santa Cruz so I thought perhaps the reason for no article in Alameda Co could have been a burial over there. Unfortunately, there were no papers for that area in the correct time span. It is entirely possible that some place like the Santa Cruz Public Library (which you could find on line) might have old newspaper archives for their area. If you have any ideas as to further ways I can help, please get back to me. ron Hi Cynthia, Yes, I still do Calif. lookups . I try to do them for all of the lists I am on. With my own searches all over the map, I quickly learned to appreciate how much I couldn't find without the help of others. We have two large books that make up the CADI from 1905 to 1939. She should be shown in the latter one. It will give a death date, sometimes a spousal initial, age at death, county of death . We also have reels and reels of old newspapers so the next step is to find the one for her county and then pray for success in finding an article. The Oakland Tribune covers Alameda County fairly well, not sure what we have for SC Co, but believe there may be something. ron At 01:01 PM 8/18/03 EDT, you wrote: >Hi, > I was wondering if you are still doing lookups? 3. Hi Cynthia, Yes, I still do Calif. 3. You can do these cemetery lookups yourself. Go to the Boone Co AR web page http://rootsweb.com/~arboone. Scroll down to cemetery info. You can locate each one geographically. You can also enter the surname you are searching in the "Search This Site" box. A listing of every mention of that surname in all the Boone Co cemeteries (and other places) will appear and you can take it from there. 2. Eddie Whittington
    3. I put the dates wrong on the marriage of George Patton and May Horton, it should have been 1898 instead of 1998. Jody & Sharon figured it out. May was married to a Thomas and he went of to war and died one year after they were married. Sharon found the marriage to Thomas to May Horton Dec 24, 1893. Is there parents name listed somewhere in this book, or some where else. The census of 1890 show they had some land close to Bellefonte and May's aunt Elizabeth Horton lived with them. If I could find Thomas, Horton, Patton family maybe I could get out of this brick wall. Thanks very much for the help. Found out May's full name (Cora May Horton). I am going to order the Marriage Book. Thanks again, God Bless, Eddie Whittington
