I had found this site yesterday and wanted to share it, I found it very helpful with locating dates, places and facts in the south east and north eastern U.S. http://www.genealogyinc.com/maps/uscm.htm Jim
The Historic Genealogical Society of Marion County Arkansas announces the publication of its newest book "Marion County Arkansas: Her People In Pictures" edited by Vicki Roberts and J L Pearce. I would assume they had the film developed at Wal-Mart and emailed you a copy of the picture from the Wal-Mart photo web site. I have used this sevice at Wal-Mart before both for film they developed and digital photos that I have uploaded to Wal-Mart site so I couldl order prints. Earl
Hi list, >Last week on one of my "lists". A kind lady responded to a request by me >to take a picture of my ggrandmother's tombstone which I knew was in this >particular cemetery in a small town in the Van Buren Co. A couple people sent >me wonderful pictures (scanned). Anyway I just got an email from Wal- >Mart photo department with a copy of one of the pictures, saying that they >could clear it up if I were interested????? It was definitely Wal-Mart's logo. >Can they do this? They would have to subscribe to the lists and pick someone >like me that had someone scan something to them. I just have never seen >this before, has anyone had this happen? Thanks for an answer to >what I hope isn't too stupid of a question. Judy

The Research Room of the Historic Genealogical Society of Marion Co AR will be closed beginning 1 March 2004 for construction purposes. None of the research materials usually available there will be accessible to anyone for about a month. If any of you have made plans to do research there, we apologize for this inconvenience. This project has been in the works for some time, but, as usual, getting everything and everyone in place has been a *huge* problem. Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com
Has anyone on the Boone county list ever researched the Lane family? Looking for information on Laura M. Lane that was listed in 1880 Harrison Township, Boone Co., Arkansas She was listed as a pauper, she was only 5 years old at this time. She was in the household of William & Eliza Jane Pitts. Anyone know who her parents are? What happened to them? I am working on the theory that she is the Laura Maude Pitts who became a schoolteacher here in Boone County for 30 plus years. Any help out there? Vicky
There is a great deal of information about all three of these families in "Genealogies of Marion Co [AR] Families 1811-1900" published by the Historic Genealogical Society of Marion Co AR in 1997. You will find the Pumphrey family in Sugar Loaf Township around the Lead Hill area in the northwest corner of Marion Co and the northeast corner of Boone Co as well as adjacent portions of Missouri. Some are buried in Keesee Cemetery in that area. The Magness family is pretty sell scattered around Marion Co, but the portion of that family that I gather you're researching will also be found in Sugar Loaf Township in both Marion and Boone Co. William "Bill" Magness was born at Lead Hill and is buried in Enon Cemetery in Boone Co as is his wife Winnie Coker. The vast majority of the William "Buck" Coker family is also located in the Sugar Loaf Township area in both Marion Co and Boone Co. You will also find data on these three families on the Marion Co web page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion. From this site you can directly access Turnbo's Tales which contains all 28 volumes of the works of Silas Clayborne Turnbo and is 100 per cent searchable. He mentions all three of your families quite often. Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "W. Oh, I know the area you speak of well, Darren. The creek that runs thru my property begins over near Pleasant Ridge Church/Cemetery. And I have a copy of Max Parnell's "Pleasant Ridge Cemetery" here in my office. However, this is not a town nor even a community (which are what DeLorme depicts on its maps). It's just the name of the church/cemetery. And in no way is it anywhere near western Boone Co and eastern Carroll Co. Because Sylvia noted that her family said the Pleasant Ridge School she's inquiring about was in Jasper, Newton Co AR, which is very near Harrison, Boone Co AR, It's my guess the one she's looking for is the one near Harrison in Boone Co. There was a school there years ago called Pleasant Ridge. Thanks for the heads up, though. Martin Family Boone CO. My Martin's came from VA 1700s to KY early 1800s or earlier TN, possibly ILL before arriving in Izard CO, AR. I may have a Martin in Boone CO also? just haven't made the connection. My husband that it related to James B. Martin of Izard, Searcy and finally Marshall CO, AR. Has done a DNA test. Hopefullty this will answert some questions if we are lucky enough to find a match. I am sure that James was a half breed Cherokee. I have Malinda Howard daughter of James B. Martin that was in Boone CO in the 1890s I believe that they were staying with a Martin Kin. Sandra Howard
Looking for any information on Laura Pitts who was a teacher in Public School in Boone County. She is in census in Bellefonte in 1880 record shows her occupation as teaches, next I find her still in Bellefonte as a teacher in the 1900, 1910 & 1920 census. What school could she have taught at? Thanks, Vicky

If you will go to the Boone Co web page http://www.rootsweb.com/~arboone you will find a listing of all the cemeteries in the county with descriptions of their locations. You will also find a heading "Cemeteries Online." If you'll click on this and enter the surname you're searching in the search box, each cemetery with that surname will come up on the screen. Click on the one you want and scroll down to the information. If that's not the correct cemetery, click on another one. And so on until you find the persons you're looking for.
