Hi List, I've been watching this list for sometime hoping to contact my Arkansas Hicks family. Jonathan Hicks and his family are on the 1850 Carroll Co. census. His sons William and James were in the Civil War. William in the 27th Arkansas Confederate Infantry and James in the Missouri Cavalry Regiment commanded by Col S.D. Jackman. Jonathan and Hiram, my gggrandfather, were brothers. Hiram moved to Green Co. Missouri and my family still lives there. If there are any connections to my Arkansas family, I sure would like to hear from you. Regards, Harold L. Hicks
Posted on: Boone Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Boone/10801 Surname: Dodson ------------------------- This may be helpful to you. In the Carroll Co 1870 census for Prairie Township I find: Jessee Dodson 45 b TN. Mary 32 b TN. Lark M 8 b TX. Joseph 4 b TX. William R 2 b TX. Allen 4/12 b AR (b in Jan). You can access this census from the Boone Co AR web page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~arboone. You do know, I trust, that Boone Co was created primarily from Carroll Co in 1869. I find that, when I'm having trouble locating folks in Boone Co around this time period, it's often helpful to go to neighboring counties. Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com
Posted on: Boone Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Boone/10800 Surname: Dodson ------------------------- My joseph E. Dodson lived at Boone County and married Hanna Berthenia Williams (b) Boone Co., Ark. about 1873. She was the daughter of Mary Smith, Roberts, Williams, Bailey. Those are the family names that I know of but not on the Dodson side as we are still looking for our Joseph Dodsons family. Hr surely had brothers and sisters and we aren't sure who they were. Trying to find our families of Boone County and have had no luck. There is another Joseph E. Dodson of Boone county and he was the son of Daniel Blue Dodson. I think mine is son of Jesse Dodson as I found on census.

I am posting to this several lists, so excuse if you get it more than once!! The Port Columbus National Civil War Naval Museum in Columbus, GA will be opening on March 9, 10, and 11, 2001. The grand opening will be held on March 9. This new museum replaces the old Confederate Naval Museum. It will feature both Union and Confederate navies. Some of the exhibits will include the CSS Chattahoochee and the ironclad CSS Jackson, which were raised from the Chattahoochee River in the 1960's. The CSS Jackson was built in Columbus at the Columbus Ironworks. Also, a blockade runner, the Virginia, is on display in the museum. Other exhibits include a replica of the USS Hartford and an 80-foot long replica of the CSS Albemarle. The Albemarle will have a simulator of a warship in combat. The museum will feature wall murals, uniforms, documents, flags, guns, and swords of the navies. Also, interactive exhibits and an actual Confederate National Flag, an 8 foot, 2 inch by 17 foot, 1 inch flag will be on display. A recreated turret of the USS Monitor of actual size will also be featured. Throughout the weekend, admission is free on March 10 and 11. There will be cannon firings, reenactments and entertainment throughout the day. The regular admission costs will be: Adults-$4.50; Students-$3; and Senior Citizens/Military-$3.50. Group rates will be: Adults-$3 and Students-$2. It will be open 364 days a year (closed on Christmas Day) from 9am-5pm. I urge anyone with an interest in Civil War naval history or just an interest in the Civil War to visit this new 'landmark' in Columbus, GA. The address of the museum is: 1002 Victory Drive, Columbus, GA 31902. For more information, please call (706) 327-9798.
