Posted on: Boone Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Boone/10850 Surname: HAWKINS ------------------------- JAMES PLEASANT HAWKINS, JR married "SARAH" (maiden name unknown, but was Cherokee) in about 1874/5 in Boone County around Leadhill area. They had two children, JAMES WILLIAM HAWKINS, born about 1875 and SARAH SUSAN HAWKINS, born in July 1879. "SARAH" the mother died in Nov 1879. James took the children to his parents home and they raised them. He remarried in 1880 to EDA MOORE and had another child, MARY MAY HAWKINS born in May after his death in Feb 1882. Eda later married a HANCOCK. James William (Will) married a FANNIE HANCOCK and moved to Fayetteville, then to Oklahoma. Sarah Susan married JOHN THOMAS MOTLEY, they had 5 children, two lived, ARKIE ELIZABETH and GERALD LEE (JEWEL), their children OLA AND ORLENA are buried in Carrollton Holler by their mother Sarah Susan, who died in 1913. The other son Donald Lawrence Motley is buried in Protem. Arkie Elizabeth married HENRY RAGSDALE in Protem 1925. They are buried in Raytown MO. I am their daughter. Jewel lives in Oklahoma. My question is - "does anyone have any information on the CHEROKEE "SARAH", what her maiden name could have been or what family of Cherokee's she was from? My grandfather would never tell my mother and her brother anything about their mother, they never saw any of her people, including the Hawkins, strange huh? I know there were a lot of Cherokees in the area and would like to know her family name if possible. She was probably born about 1853/4/5 - My mother's aunt was Myrt Motley Ashton who died few years ago there in Peel. She was married to Ernst Ashton. Years ago when mother was small, her other aunt "Tint" PRIDE told her that her grandmother "SARAH" was full blood Cherokee. Unfortunately, these aunts are gone now and I have no one to ask any questions of. My Uncle Jewel has verified the fact that they were told this as children, but were not supposed to tell anyone at school. They attended CHIGGER HILL and TURNBO school. any info would be appreciated.

Posted on: Boone Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Boone/10849 Surname: HARRISON, ALLEY ------------------------- Rev. Benjamin Harrison is reported to have died in a tent fire during a revival in Harrison Arkansas (I believe that is Boone County, then Carrol County) sometime between 1857 and 1865. His wife's name was Sarah. He had 3 sons and a duaghter, Frank, Edmund, William and Mary. His daughter, Mary, married a man from Arkansas by the name of Joe Alley in Alabama. I have not found this family after 1850 until 1865 when Sarah marries again. I do not know if they lived in Arkansas or if the Rev. was visiting as an Evanglist or circuit rider. If anyone has any information or has any suggestions, I would welcome the input. Thanks!

Jean's name could have been Jeannie, Jennie, Ginna, Luzina or Lugina. They were married in Boone Co in the 1880's, later moved to Searcy Co and on to Indian Territory in the 1890's. They may have run the ferry on the Arkansas river in the early 1900's. Jean was a daughter to William P & Sarah Elizabeth Stone, and a sister to Mary Etta Hancock and Martha Jane Hancock. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Betty Lenzi
Hello, I've not noticed if there have been any inquiries on this name because until just a moment ago, I did not realize there was a connection to my family. There is apparently an important connection. I am trying to find out if anyone knows of a William F. ALLEY b. circa 1885 or a Joe ALLEY born circa 1855 who married a Mary HARRISON. I assume that they are from the Harrison area. Thanks, Lois Anderson

Have also got some good stuff from Stephen Lawson. Thanks, Mona If you would like any of our data, branching out from Washington and his descendents, let me know.
I see a Hancock there. In the 1870-80+ time span, Stones and Rogers moved out of AL and GA to Boone Co, AR. (not much left to come home to) Two of my gr grandparents girls grew up to marry two Hancocks. Mary Etta Stone m. John Hancock and her younger sis, Martha m. James Hancock. They eventually moved on to OK and the John Hancocks took the Oregon Trail to settle on the Columbia I could be way off as you didn't indicate a time period, but thought I would check anyway. ron ----- Original Message ----- From: Mona <RicketyRN@aol.com> To: <ARBOONE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2001 6:22 PM Subject: [ARBOONE] VanZandt ancestry > Posted on: Boone Co. Louis O. Cochran was married to Irma O'Neal (Neil?) and died in Arizona in an auto accident. Louis was an Arizona Highway Patrolman. marji in se washington state
I have received so much help from everyone on this list, and for that I am extending a big Thank You ... Last evening we talked with my husband's mother - Margaret Ann Wills Cochran here in Washington state. She said she had been contacted by a "Baker Cochran" descendant. The researcher is living in Oklahoma and will be moving to Harrison soon. Margaret also said she was known as "Margie Dan". Margaret lived in Valley Springs before she married in 1936. This is Louis Cochran's son, Louis was born in Olvey, Boone County on 12/25/1913 to Grover Cleveland Cochran and Martha Gertrude Pope. If anyone on the list is part of either of these families, please contact me. OR if someone has been contacted by others who are researching this Cochran family, please contact me with that information. marji in se washington state

This came across another list and thought it might give you a good chuckle or two..... ~gina~ YOU KNOW YOU'RE TAKING GENEALOGY TOO SERIOUSLY IF...... You are the only person to show up at the cemetery research party with a shovel. To put the "final touches" on your genealogical research, you've asked all of your closest relatives to provide DNA samples. You were instrumental in having "non-genealogical use of the genealogy room copy machine" classified as a federal hate crime. Your house leans slightly toward the side where your genealogical records are stored. You decided to take a two-week break from genealogy, and the U. S. Postal Office immediately laid off 1,500 employees. Out of respect for your best friend's unquestioned reputation for honesty and integrity, you are willing to turn off that noisy surveillance camera while she reviews your 57 genealogical research notebooks in your home. The armed security guard, however, will remain. During an ice storm and power outage, you ignore the pleas of your shivering spouse and place your last quilt around that 1886 photograph of dear Uncle George. Ed McMahon, several t.v. cameras and an envelope from Publishers Clearing House arrive at your front door on Super Bowl Sunday, amd the first thing you say is, "Are you related to the McMahons of Ohio?" "A Loving Family" and "Financial Security" have moved up to second and third, respectively, on your list of life's goals, but still lag far behind "Owning My Own Microfilm Reader." A magical genie appears and agrees to grant your any one wish, and you ask that the 1890 census be restored Visit my homepage at http://hometown.aol.com/ginaburningsky/myhomepage/business.html

Posted on: Boone Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Boone/10840 Surname: Dodson ------------------------- Thanks Mysty; I found this family again in 1880 Carroll County. Jesse Dodson, father was not listed, perhaps deceased. Head of house was Meary Dodson. Joseph Dodson at age 15 in 1880 was listed as 'Joel'. Page 33, Prarie Township. Joseph Dodson (b) 1866 Tex. married Hanna Berthenia Williams (b) 1875 Boone Co., Ark. Joseph and Hanna Berthenia moved to Wilburton, Oklahoma about1894 while Joseph went on a cattle drive to Ft. Worth, Texas. Heading cattle north on the Chisholm Trail and stopping at Turner Falls, Okla.(1899) seven men were killed by robbers. Only one survived as he had gone to town for supplies. He went to Wilburton to tell Hanna Berthenia the sad news of her husbands death and to tell her that all men were buried on the site of death.(situated in a boxed canyon.) Hanna visited the grave many times through the years of her life and took their daughter, Maggie Lucinda Dodson b. 1895 Wilburton, Okla. to visit the grave. Hanna Berthenia Williams, Dodson then moved to Foster, Okla. and married William Asbury Tarrant. I am adding this information due to the fact that many people have confused my Joseph E. Dodson with that of Joseph E. Dodson, son of Daniel Blue Dodson.
Hello all, Can anyone tell me what the local paper for Harrison during the 1850s to the middle 1860s would be and if it is still in operation? Thanks, Lois Anderson
