    3. James Stone b. ca 1836, GA moved with his family, Harriet, James Jr, son, Henry J, son Effie, daughter and Minnie, daughter to Boone Co, a little before 1870. His brother Francis and father, Wiley, also came up from Alabama with him. All were csa vets. Another brother, William P Stone, settled along the Buffalo River in Searcy Co, near St Joe. An older family researcher, now passed away, had some sort of reason to believe that James committed suicide, and it is a fact that by 1890 Harriet was alone with her kids and moved to Independence Co. Has anyone on this list any information on this family? ron in CA

    3. I have been in contact with the director of the Geographical Name Information System, a department of the Unites States Geographic Survey, and he enthusiastically endorsed that they be advised of geographical features, in this instance CEMETERIES only, that are not presently in the system. There is a form on the site that gives the information required. After they do a lookup on the information provided they with let you know if the particular site is to be listed or not along with the information on the site. If anyone would like to perform this service I would be happy to help them in any way I can or if anyone would provide me with the necessary information I will work with GNIS to have the cemetery listed. 3. Yes we have. I have at 37 marker test, Ray Bates of Washington state and Lendell Bates of northestern Alabama have 25 marker tests, and Bill Bates of Utah has a 12 marker test. Ray and Bill are in the line from Arkansas and I and Lendall are through Georgia and all our tests were through the Bates Project and are on Y-Search. There is also a nontested female as part of our research group through central Alabama. Our line is presently not "Branded" and does not connect with any other family line in the U.S. though I am an exact 37 match with a David Douglas Bates but so far his father as refused to talk about a possible connection in England. I have also have contact with Witt Bates of BFOOV and am a life member of The Bates Association of Massachusetts. 3. Bill, Have you participated in the Bates family DNA project? Which of the tested lines is each of your Bates from? My participant matched the JY line (John Bates 1598-1666 York Co. VA). Bonnie, Have you had someone from your line participate as well? What line matched your Bates line? Most of the one I know about are either through William BATES who led the wagon train from Cherokee Co, Ga about 1853 or one of my family lines out of York County, SC. The line that was in Sebastian County is John BATES Sr' second son, Zachariah BATES who went to Madison County, Tennessee before moving to Arkansas about 1850. The William J. BATES who settled in Boone Co (it was part of Carroll Co at the time-1876) was Zach's youngest son and, as I iterated previously, we have no idea why he left Sebastian Co which makes it part of our research efforts. Also, in a lot of places like Boone Co, much of the records are actually in the county of origin, in this case Carroll, from before this count was formed. I have an old file I created some years ago when tracing the seven different BATES family lines I fount to be out of South Carolina between 1805 to 1850 mostly into Georgia and Alabama. This file did not have my particular family line because we could not locate the South Carolina connection until about a year ago although I had many conversations with one of the researchers without establishing the link for quite some time. I just checked that file and do not find the names you mentioned however, I do not have a lot of later (after 1860) information as that was the primary era I was looking in (1830-60) for my connection and did not keep them up after deciding I was not going to connect to any of them. I also try my best when contacting other BATES researchers to see if I can link them with one of the lines I have done a little research on and to date, only have one who I have not been able to positively identify a connection. However, all of the ones I have helped were ! connected to John Isaac BATES "The Immigrant" which allowed me to point them to Witt BATES, researcher of BFOOV (Bates Family of old Virginia) who I have had many dealings with over my years of research. 3. Betty, Regarding your 2 Nov. 2009 post about Wiley and Warren Tomlinson, I wonder if the Tomlinson below could be related to yours: Erestus Tomlinson m. Unice Rouse 3 July 1815, by John Jones Jr. VA Colonial Abstracts, Vol. III, Washington Co. VA This Unice Rouse was likely the daughter of my Dr. John Rouse who appears in Redmond Cole's papers. Dr. John Rouse's son Eleazer Rouse and Eleazer's wife Eliza McKee were my ggg-grandparents. Lee Anne

They go like this: Wiley Tomlinson, s.o: Jonathan & Eleanor Warren Tomlinson Jonathan Tomlinson, s/o (we think) Jesse James Tomlinson, and we think Jesse James Tomlinson was s/o Richard Tomlinson.
