My Jones came from Tennessee in 1850 to Carroll Co. in 1858. Benjamin was born in Illinois. I did find your Benjamin Jones living with a Elizabeth Walker, born in 1811 in Tennessee, in the 1850 census in Carroll Co. In the 1860 census she was living next door to Benjamin and his family. This could be his mother and Benjamin's father died and she remarried. Your might try to find a marriage between a Elizabeth Jones and a Walker between 1833 and 1837 either in Illinois or Arkansas. I could not find any of the family in 1870 or 1880. Hope this helps Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Her husband was William Jones born in 1810 in Ky. They were in Bradley, Tennessee in 1850. Their youngest son was born in Tenn. in 1856. I think they must have come to Carroll Co. Crooked Creek between 1856 and 1860 as Matilda Jones was listed in the 1860 census living in Crooked Creek, Carroll, AR. In 1870, I only found the oldest daughter Elvina Jones (Vine) living in Harrison, Boone, Ar. (which I understand was Crooked Creek) with the two youngest sons, William N.(Nathan) Jones and Franklin Jones. I am guessing the mother died between 1860 and 1870. Any help you could give me would be appreciated. If I wanted to do some research at the courthouse and library, which one would I go to? The Carroll Co or Boone Co. Thanks, J. In the 1850 census they were in Bradley Co. Tennessee with the father William Jones, Ky. and Matilda, VA. and several children including a James N. Jones, age 14. I found them in 1860 census in Carroll County, Crooked Creek. The mother, Matalida Jones was listed as head of the household, so I assume the father had died between 1856 and 1860. James N. Jones would have been 24 and he was not in the home in 1860. In 1870 I found the oldest girl, Elvina (Vina) Jones in Boone Co., Harrison (which was Crooked Creek, Carroll Co.) with the two youngest sons, William Nathan and Franklin Jones. The family story of James N.(Napoleon) Jones was he was in the Civil War in Hill's Ark. Cal. Vol. from 1862 until the end of the war. When he returned home, he found that his mother had been tortured by either two Union soldiers or bushwackers and had died of her wounds. He tracked one of the men down and ! killed him. He said he left a wife and two sons in Washington County (don't know year) when a baby girl the wife was holding fell out of the wagon and died. He married a Kate Austin in Yell County in 1874 and lived in Johnson and Pope County where he was killed in 1891. I am not sure the family in Carroll and Boone County is our James N. Jones' family. I would like to hear from anyone who might have information on this Jones family in Crooked Creek. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. William Wesley Baker was the son of Felix S. Baker of Harrison and grandson of Andrew Baker. I have proven the information on everyone through DNA but this William has given me trouble ever since I started the search, and William is the man my dad was named after and my brother after his dad. William married Ellen Ware and he had the two girls Mabel & Grace 1900 census. Some people just like hiding out. If you go to the web site listed for this book, it will list the surname index for this book. I checked it out and I found all the surnames I was looking for. So you do not have to look up Witty, Hicks, Gibson, or Rowland. I found them and am going to order the book. Thank you anyway!!! _www.frontpagebooks.net_ (http://www.frontpagebooks.net) and under search type in Boone County and mark title, it will list the page with the book, Family Maps of Boone County. What a valuable treasure this will be. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

The book name is Family Maps of Boone County, Arkansas Deluxe Edition (thay also have Carroll and Mairon County too - I hope to buy those soon - if anyone has those, can you lookup DeShields to see if I really need them? It has maps of Homesteads, Roads, Waterways, Towns, Cemeteries, Railroads and more. I am one who does not have a great imagination. So it is very difficult to imagine how the land lays out for me. I enjoy seeing a visual layout like a surveyor or the county does so I can see who the next door neighbors were. There is 3 maps per township and the book is by Grebory A Boyd, J. D. I purchased it off ebay However, this is the order information. I do highly recommend it. You be surprised how it helps them visualize and also how they begin to tell the stories of the people who were neighbors and how they were related. Hope all this helps. What is the name of the book. Is it still in publication? If so, where can it be purchased? Just to protect you from the Copywrite Police. :) It sounds like a great addition to anyone genealogy library (or to donate to a public library)! Sue
Is there anything on Jeremiah ("Jerry") Thomas Russell? He married Sarah Ann McEntire in Boone County in 1903; her father was William Champion McEntire, who was in Jefferson twp in the 1900 census. Rolene Kiesling, Groveland, CA

(I am from Lead Hill) The Milum (not new Milum)cemetery is on the west side of the Lead Hill School. In the 50,s and early 60,s if there was a funeral we would get out of school early so as not to disrupt. The cemetery was opened in the late 40's, my brother was either the first or second burial in 1948. The federal government purchased land on the west side of the Milum to replace the Lead Hill cemetery and several smaller ones which were covered by Bull Schoals Lake. If there were no requests by the family's the graves along with any existing stones were moved to this west section. When I was growing up most of the markers were white painted boards marked unknown provided by the Gov. These have now rotted away. If the family requested a grave would be moved elsewhere and many familys did buy lots in the Milum section. If you look at the web listing each name is marked east section or west section. west refers ! to the federal part. Any deaths before 1948 are transfers. The cemetery is still maintained by donations and any would be appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
