Mr. Jefferies does not know what he is talking about if he says that there were no newspapers in Benton Co. in 1894. The Benton County Democrat, Bentonville Sun, and Gravett News were all publishing at that time. I search of obits from those papers failed to turn up either Stephen or Lucinda Ashby, however, nor were probate or marriage abstracts helpful. It is possible that the obits were published somewhere one or both of them had previously lived. The census page you cite gives Tennessee as Lucinda's birthplace; you might try looking there.
