    3. My grandmother was on the 1900 census for Bentonville, Ark. listed with a Mortimer D. Smith as head of house. Mortimer was married to an Eliza Smith on the 1880 census for Carroll County, Ark. So apparently between a880 and 1900 this wife passed and he married Jane ??? (my great grandmother). Bessie Mae (my grandmother) has always said that her father was William Weir and she was born in Kan. That her mother was Jane Roy. We have never been able to place her in Kan nor locate a Jane Roy. So the 1900 census for Bentonville is the only thing we have located from her past: Mortimer D. Smith age 64 born 3-17-1836 in Tenn. Jane 30 born 1-12-1870 In Kan. Bessie 13 born 2-13-1887 in Kan. (my grandmother) Mamie 11 born Jan 1889 in Kan. Mary E. 9 bprm Feb/ 1891 in MO. Fay T. 7 born April 1893 in Ark. Martin Luther 3 born Sept 27, 1896 died Sept 17 1969 in Iowa It states on this census that they have been married for 14 years. If that were the case, then it would seem that Mortimer D. Smith would be the father of Bessie. In June of 1903 there is a marriage certificate for Bessie WARE to an L. L. Lucke. One of my dad's brothers went by the name of Luke. Mortimer passes away in Dec. of 1904 and is buried in Bentonville. In May of 1904 there is a marriage certificate for a Mamie WARE to a B. P. Martin. I find it odd that Bessie and Mamie both used the name WARE when they were married. My brother and I have worked on this line for about 15 years with nothing new. We have stopped in Bentonville on several trips to Joplin and still not able to come up with a new lead. Should anyone read this and see any possible connection to their line please send me an e-mail. On the 1900 census 11 lines up from Mortimer Smith is listed a Lewis Leuck age 56 living with two sons. I feel this might be the father of one of my Dad's brothers. My grandmother worked very hard to keep all of this covered up as well as the rest of her family. They sent me a picture of Fay but removed all writing on back of picture. We could make out Afton, OK. and by that was able to locate Jane Smith on the 1910 census in Afton, OK. Thank you for any help you might give. Sue in Houma, La.
