National Park Service Civil War Soldiers and Sailors Main Page Soldier List Regiment List Sailors List http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ This is one of the best resources I have found for locating information related to the Civil War. I checked this morning and found a note that there is a "terrible" computer problem and the site is down. Hopefully not for long This site list all names from unit rosters. I searched the alphabetical list and found my great grandfather and the unit where he served. This led me to finding a list of Battles they fought. I was able to then locate a description of the battles. I went through the unit roster and found my great-grandfather two of his brothers, and a number of names of others who married relatives. The unit roster also provided more information evidence supporting the story that my great-grandfather's first wife was the daughter of his unit commander. I hope the computer problem is quickly resolved, but meanwhile Cyndi's list has an increasing number of links to sites providing information related to those who served in the Civil War. I believe Rootsweb has a number of helpful links. Many counties have posted information on their sites connected to the US GenWeb. Many local libraries and I believe local Family History Center's have links to resource cites. Local sons & daughters of those who severed on both side, may also ge a good resource for information. Hope you enjoy Civil War research as much as I have. On geat grandfather served in the Union Army, the other the Confederate Army. Searching the list of the unit battles, I confirmed that it is very unlikely that they could have met on a battle field. Field reports from the commanders are published in the volumes of WAR of the REBELION. I did not find names of my relatives but the description of the battles provided me with an insight to life during the era. I was always under the impression that my family were confederate sympathizers. I do know that he was a school teacher before moving to Washington County, AR. in the late 1890's. He moved to Cave Springs before 1900. He had six sons and one daughter. One son served in the Spanish-American War. I can not find any records on him except for a pension application which is listed under the civil war information on Ancestry.com. Are there other places to look for the information on this War? His name is Roy E Hartman and is also buried in Phillips Cemetery. >Thank you for all your information. > >Important Note: >The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
