    3. Maybe since people knew names back then better than the route numbers this would help. He thought that you passed the Brightwater church you went over a bridge and past some railroad tracks. They had an older home on the hill but when they got older than built a red brick home close to the street. I am sure things have changed a lot since then. _________________________________________________________________ Get a preview of Live Earth, the hottest event this summer - only on MSN http://liveearth.msn.com?source=msntaglineliveearthhm

    3. Thanks so much for this. What I am looking for is the family home of a friend. Miss Beeler was an English teacher at the Rogers High until 1961. She died a few years later. They were said to have lived on Rt 4 in Rogers and it was near the Brightwater Church. Her nephew Mark Asbell came to stay with them and my friend remembers going to visit them when he was very young. He remembered the house was near the church or not to far. Thanks for any help you might provide us. Caren McNeill >From: "Phil Smiley" <hsmiley@mc2k.com> >Reply-To: arbenton@rootsweb.com >To: "Ark. 3. What the list is calling the original Brightwater Methodist church which sat on the east side of Hiway 62 was built in 1950 as a 7th or 8th grader I helped build the church. I am not certain when it burned as I had already left the area. No do I know the date when the new church was built on the west side of the hiway. As for Route 4, don't bet the family farm on it, but I believe that it extended from Rogers of hiway 94 & turned east on Sugar Creek Road and ran east past Brightwater a little ways. Then it became Route 2 from Garfield post office. Who were the people on Rt. 4, Rogers? Most of us would remember names better than post office routes. At one time Brightwater had it's own post office and Clint Clawson was the post master for years. The post office was located in his grocery and general store. I remember, as a child, that I thought his two daughters, my cousins, were real rich as they could get a stick of candy when they wanted it. In recent years I've learned that was not the case as they had to work to earn that stick of candy. Wanda Bennett at Brightwater could give you a history of that Methodist church as the one on the east side sat on her property. Phil

    3. What I cannot understand about this gateway business is why in the world anyone who is seeking help on their family wishes to remain anonymous. I have been searching for family for more than 38 years and have quite a lot of records collected. There have been numerous times I can identify with the querist's question and could provide an answer. Then when I go to the gateway board to try to reply, I discover they wish to remain anonymous. Why should I spend hours going through notebooks and computer files to dig out information for an anonymous someone I have already plowed the same ground with in the past? As a result, I usually don't respond. Imogene Bennett Springfield, MO Imogene.Bennett@att.net

    2. I don't see the problem. The message is written by someone doing research on the message board, forwarded automatically to the email list for your information. What difference does it make if it comes from the gateway or from somebody on the list? If it's about an ancestor of yours, don't you want to read it and respond? In that event all you have to do is click on the link. > On drastic measure would be to close the gateway. > Don > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Phil Smiley" <hsmiley@mc2k.com> > To: "Ark.
