Mr Edwards had been sick about two months prior to his death. He came to Benton Co sixty years ago (abt 1835) from Bedford County, Tennessee and made his home in this vicinity since that time. The deceased leaves a wife and one son to mourn his untimely death, who have the sympathy of a host of friends in their bereavement. The funeral services were held Saturday and conducted by***Rev Wm Edwards*** of Dickson after which the remains were followed to their final resting place in Bethel cemetery by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. =================== Benton Co Democrat - 10/27/1895 from Pond In our last paper we forgot to say that Uncle Mitch Edwards is dead. He died Sept 20th and was buried at Bethel cemetery near which he had lived for many years. He was among the first settlers of the county. This writer had known him for almost 36 years and has never heard his honor or truthfulness impeached. He died, it is said in the faith and hope of the Christian. ======================= In the 1880 census, Hannah Burgess is listed as his aunt, age 82. ======================= I know that Mitchell had but one son, John Bryan Edwards who married Safronia Cash. I am seeking information about a Mitchell Edwards - b abt 1819 and died 1895. He served Gordon's Cavalry Regiment [also called 4th Regiment]. Married Mary Jane Potter, had one son John Bryan Edwards who married Safronia Cash. This was a second marriage for widow Mary Jane Potter - whos maiden name was Long. Mary Jane died about 1869, leaving behind two children, Frank and Nancy Katherine Potter. Mitchell Edwards raised his two stepchildren, Frank and Nancy "Kat" and his son John Bryan Edwards. Mitchell remarried in 1875 to Narcissa Jane Cromwell. John Bryan Edwards and Safronia Cash had 8 children. None of whom, I have any furhter info except names and where a few are buried. I am attempting to come up with obits to see if that will help...but, so far no luck. If it is at all possible that this family is connected, I would be gratefully appreciative of any assistance. My main issue has been the Long line of descendants, but, I do know that Hannah Burgess is listed as an aunt in one census to Mitchell Edwards. ------- 1929 Obit book of History of Benton Co Benton Co Record & Democrat - Sunday - 28 Feb 1929 Edwards, John B - The country side was shocked to learn of the sudden death of John B Edwards which occurred early Wednesday morning while at work. Mr Edwards, who with Sam Russell, was cutting wood on the Chamberlain place south of town when he was struck with a stroke of apolexy and passed away before a physician arrived. John B Edwards had been a resident of this vicinity for over sixty years having been born here on the old Edwards homestead east of town in 1869 and was reared in this locality. Practically all of his entire life was spent in farming and fruit raising. He sold his farm east of town some years ago and bought a small place in the southeast part of town where he has resided with his family for the past ten years. He leaves to mourn his departure his widow, three sons, and four daughters, three of whom were at home when he passed away. Funeral services were conducted from the home Wednesday afternoon by the Rev T J Justice and burial was made in ! the IOOF cemetery following the services. Wilma, Thanks for the advice. When time permits I will attempt to add what I have for Bethel. "Is that the cemetery located about 4 miles north of Decatur, and south of Gravette? I am new at this, so maybe I just don't have it all figured out yet" To answer your question, yes that is the Bethel Cemetery that I have photos for. My M-I-L has family in the Bethel cemetery, Sooter I believe. will have to double check. Donna

There are rumors running rampant, that arkansasgravestones will not allow pictures posted on their site to be posted on any others, such as find- -grave.--NOT TRUE! Here is what the head office says in reply to this rumor: As far as the GPP not permitting anyone else to use a photo -- that isn't true at all. The person who owns the original photo has the copyright and can use it anywhere they wish. All that the "Terms of Use" page is trying to say is that if someone submits a COPY of a photo to the GPP Project -- we reserve the right to use the COPY given to us as we wish. In addition -- if someone wants to take a copy from the GPP site -- they need to get permission from the GPP site -- or the original submitter. Yes, I have been a member of find -a grave for several years, and have over 1200 people and pictures of graves posted there as well. Not all are from AR though! Donna, When you put the photo on, and the page for the information for names comes up, at the top will be a drop down for the county, and a list of cemeteries with pictures submitted. Drop down to the "add new cemetery" and click on it and put Bethel in the blank. Unfortunately, I have no pictures from Bethel, and the program seems to only allow cemeteries to be added whan a photo is. Is that the cemetery located about 4 miles north of Decatur, and south of Gravette?
