    3. Hello all, Does anyone know where I might be able to find an obituary from 1868? Also I have an ancestor that died in McDonald Co, MO but who lived for quite a time in Benton Co - he died in 1906 - any ideas where I might find his? I have checked with the library in McDonald Co, and they were not much help. Thanks! 2. When my Dad was a teen (he is now 88) he remembers his father saying to him "that's where my grandma is buried" and pointing out the window. That's all he remembers. At that time, they were traveling by car in the Wild Cat Creek area. I've been looking for her gravesite for many years without success. She's not listed in the Wild Cat Creek cemetery transcription. I'm in California so I don't know if there is another cemetery in the WCC area. Does anyone know if there is? (I've purchased many of the NAGS cemetery books, as well.) FYI, her name at time of death was either Elizabeth Litrel (or variant spelling) or Elizabeth Addington, and she died sometime after 1900. Thanks much, Carol Littrell Brown

    1. Cemetery readings and books
    2. FYI -{there was a query about this which I have pasted below}~ All of the Benton County and Washington Cemetery County books are copyrighted by the Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society. The Historical Society had nothing to do with them. They took many many hours of dedicated time by members to do these readings. The books are 8½ x 11 pages but not landscaped and not folded in half. They are still available for sale and remember they are copyrighted so sharing of them must follow the copyright laws - website for the genealogy society is - http://www.rootsweb.com/~arnwags/ At this website you will find some cemeteries with the graves listed. You will find a deed indexed by grantor and grantee and a list of those who applied for Confederate Pension by name. We are just now starting to update our readings at the cemeteries with the GPS Project. Thank you. Linda Norman copies from query - Back in the mid-1970's the Benton County Historical Society completed a cemetery listing of all markers found in all known cemeteries in the county at the time, I believe there were either 7 or 11 volumes (each volume consisted of 8-1/2 x 11 landscape pages, folded in half). The recordings were done by volunteers, if I remember correctly. Does anyone know if there has a more recent project of this nature by any organization? If so, are the books available? cd's?

    3. The ROGERS CEMETERY is divided into a number of sections: Rogers, Callison, Maple, Pottersfield, & Babyland or Dogwood as it was originally called. The number applies to the plot and other numbers to the site of grave. I do not know of any Block A or Section P's. If you are looking for someone, stop in at the office. Those friendly gentlemen will be able to lead you right to where you are wanting. Sometimes, unmarked graves do not show up as "unmarked graves" on their records, just who is buried there. He died in Benton sometime after 1867, probably after 1880. I am searching hard for these people! Any help out there for me? 1. Kelly Relatives
    2. Leola Russell
    3. CasaRuth inquired for connections to Emmett Kelly, Don Kelly replied with the copy of an email exchange with me. Some of the Georgia Kelly cousins attended the 2004 Kelly/Ellis Reunion in Madison County. The next Reunion will be held the 4th Saturday of June 2006 in Madison County. My GGG-Grandfather Hiram Kelly was born 1787 census data consistently indicates in North Carolina. He married Elizabeth McGee 19 Aug 1813 in Burke County, North Carolina. The Kelly family moved to Habersham County Georgia before 1830 and on to Cherokee County before 1840. Elizabeth apparently died before 1845, because the 16 Jul 1845 marriage of Hiram Kelly and Malinda Anderson is recorded in the Lumpkin County Georga records. Hiram, Malinda, their three daughters; Elmina, Eliza Jane "Louiza", and Malinda, and Hiram and Elizabeth's youngest son Jesse were recorded in the 1850 Census of Forsyth County, GA. The other children of Hiram and Elizabeth were married and living in Cherokee or other nearby GA counties. Hiram Kelly's family is mentioned in two editions of Goodspeed's History of Northwest Arkansas. Bureau of Land Management records indicate Hiram settled in Madison County before 1860. Hiram, Joseph, and J. R. Kelly are recorded in the 1860 census of Arkansas. Hiram's daughter Sarah and her husband Joshua C Ellis were in Washington County. I so not have any information connecting Emmett Kelly with the Hiram Kelly family. The brief search below places Emmett Kelly in Missouri and suggest more information might be found in the 1920 & 1930 Census for Kansas. Google Search "genealogy Emmett Kelly" > www.joeykelly.com/     " EMMETT KELLY first visited the circus as a young boy in his home town of Sedan, Kansas.  He held various jobs growing up in rural Missouri, including working for a dog and pony show.  It was in 1920, when working for a silent film company in Kansas City that he first drew the cartoon character "Weary Willie." Emmett brought "Weary Willie, to life in the form of "chalk talks;" he would illustrate Willie in short skits which he had written.      With his artistic skills, he found work as a circus wagon and sign painter and saved enough money to buy his first trapeze and became an aerialist.  He worked with a number of circus companies before meeting and marrying Eva Moore.  Together they perfected the famed "Aerial Kellys" double trapeze act while performing occasionally as a whiteface clown for extra money.      Up to that time, almost all of the clowns in American circuses wore whiteface makeup only.  He tried performing as "Weary Willie" as often as he could, but most head clowns did not approve, saying that audiences would react unfavorably to his tattered clothing and unkempt appearance.  The character of "Willie" was put aside and he continued to work on the trapeze with his wife until the birth of EmmettKelly Jr., the first of his two sons. 2. I've tried googling this organization but the links don't connect. Can you give us the ULR, please? Mark Thornton of Native American Cemetery Readers has done a more comprehensive reading of Benton County cemeteries than anyone before or after.

    3. I would like to add what I learned about 40 years ago when copying tombstone inscriptions. I copied all the stones in the county where I was living - with the help of two good friends. Take some old regular white blackboard chalk and break it in half, and lay a piece sideways and rub over the letters and numbers on the stone. Then take your shoe and rub as much of the chalk off as you can. The numbers will show up VERY clear when you take a pix. I am speaking of the old stones that are really hard to read. The numbers are so hard to read on the old stones. Janice B. Craft
