Sue, I am a DAVIDSON. Of course, it is a common name with many lines. My particular Davidsons I've traced back to Alabama and I believe my John Davidson was perhaps in TN, then NC, then SC before settling in Alabama. His son, James was father to William Patton Davidson, who was my great-great grandfather and was in Noxubee, Miss. when he died. His widow (who had remarried to a Sullins) came to Texas along with William Patton's two sons, William Maxfield and James John, and daughter America. They settled in Van Zandt Co., Texas. Do you think we are of the same lineage? Thanks, Pat Davidson James ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue Southard" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, September 19, 2005 7:56 AM Subject: [ARBENTON] Question to the Techies > Is there a way to copy information from cd's (Adobe Reader Format) into > the e-mails? Is there a way to copy information from cd's (Adobe Reader Format) into the e-mails? I've tried copy & paste, that doesn't work. Am I missing something (a step/steps) here? If you have other Adobe software, will they allow better access to the information? I have the Obit of Benton County cd and have ordered the History of Benton County cd, both are in Adobe (reader) format. I also have other cd's not related to Benton Co. To help with inquiries for information that may be listed on our list serve, I've had to re-type the information. I always have a concern of a typo being present, which makes the text invalid. There is also the time involved in re-typing the information into an e-mail. Some sort of "copy" rountine would make this a lot faster. Sue in NE AR Researching: Ivey, Davis, Davidson, Robison, Long, Southard, Bell
Phil, Thanks so much. I will check into this one. My George Harrison Bell was b. 1828 in Tenn. and had a brother Henry Harrison Bell b. 1830. I am running into more related line all the time! This Henry might be closely related, as that is a family name which is repeated on each generation. Thanks again, Jann

Jann, On your message of June 27, 2005 to the ARBenton List, you were asking about a George H. Bell, b. 1828. I have been busier than a one-armed paper hanger, but I hadn't forgot your message. I did find something and the dates worked well with what you gave: HENRY BELL - (from The Springdale News) - Our people were painfully surprised Tuesday morning when it was learned that Henry Bell had died the night before at his home out on White River of pneumonia. Mr. Bell was in town on Monday of last week and while he was not well at the time no one had any idea that this would be his last visit to Springdale. The remains were interred in the cemetery at Bentonville Tuesday. The deceased was about 51 years of age and had been a resident of this section for several years, coming here from Tennessee. There are so very few people in this section who have not heard of Bland and Bell, the former being D.M. Bland and the latter the subject of this sketch. They owned a splendid farm out on White River besides considerable property of other descriptions, moneys, etc. and both were equal partners in all of it. They have been in partnership for over thirty years and it was something unusual to see one of them without the other. When there was any business in town to look after both of them came in. Each possessed the confidence of the other to a remarkable degree and they were more than brothers, although not related in any way by ties of blood. Mr. Bland was married and has a number of children but Mr. Bell was never married. We understand that only recently they had decided to divide their property, having traded their White River farm to W.A. Henson for his farm south of town. Mr. Bell last winter came into Possession of property variously estimated to be worth $5,000 to$10,000 by the death of relatives in Alabama. We understand that he at one time had his will made leaving all his property to Mr. Bland but that was several months ago and we are not informed as to whether or not it was ever changed. Mr. Bell was a good citizen in every sense of the word and he leaves a large circle of friends throughout Northwest Arkansas to mourn his death. from The Gentry-Journal-Advance Friday, September 15, 1899 I hope this is the one you are wanting. The age 51 years makes it 1828 birth year. Best Regards, Phil Smiley - Benton county, Ark.
I am looking for information about some of Benton County's founding fathers. Are there any books which detail some of the earlier businesses in Round Prairie and Bloomfield? In particular, I am looking at the Richardsons and Wilsons. They were merchants who owned general retail stores in the late 1800s. Also, Albert and Robert Wilson were well known cattle ranchers as early as the midlate 1800s. What old newspapers were there in this region? Thank you, Maureen [email protected]
