Peggy Did find Charlie Jordan in 1860 and how I missed him before is a wonder; as he was just a few households from my Sarah Jane Smothers and her David Jourdan husband. 21 July 1860 Marion Co., Arkansas census, Baren Creek Township: JOURDAN, Charles A. 31 M W farmer 250/500 AR #821 Nancy J. 34 F W AR James 8 M W AR Joseph R. 6 M W AR John D. 4 M W AR William A. 1 M W AR In the 1870 census for this family - there was a child that I couldn't quite make out the spelling of the name. Thought it was Cookson? It appears that this child was named for the Coopson family that was living next door to the Charles Jordan family in 1860. Think she was a mid-wife and they named the son for her surname or a family connection? And there is another Akin! 21 July 1860 Marion Co., Arkansas census, Baren Creek Township: COOPSON, Mariah A. 22 F W AL #822 Avarilla J. 4 F W AR AKIN, James R. 16 M W AR Uraley (?) C. 14 F W AR I am almost sure that Mariah was born in AL and not AR. Remember that Charlie Jordan had a daughter in the 1850 census named Maria - but, she was born in 1850. Think this Mariah might be a Jordan by birth. Charlie names his daughter after his sister? What do you think? Bernie Moore-Knowles Phoenix, Arizona - Papa'aloa, Hawai'i "I have Indian blood in me.
