Peggy Don't you just wonder about that Hensley Smith line (George Franklin Smith, etc.) and the fact that they are right there with my families? Wonder what Smith family that my Tom Smith came from? He dances around so many in the area. I had thought that with him (possibly?) living next door to this family in 1880 - that this was his widowed mother and he was farmed out to the neighbor? 1880 Census Place: Union, Baxter, Arkansas Source: FHL Film 1254038 National Archives Film T9-0038 Page 248C Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Martha SMITH Self F W W 50 AR Occ: Keeping House Fa: --- Mo: --- Sarah SMITH Dau F S W 17 AR Fa: --- Mo: --- William T. I did find marriages that were interconnected with Tom's family - for instance the Callaways. (Tom's son; Lewis was married to Ethel Callaway - daughter of Walter Allen Callaway and Rebecca Isabelle "Belle" Phaby) But, could not find this Martha Smith and family in 1870. However, shortly before I left for Hawai'i this last trip - Michael Condardo; while looking for some Smiths himself - came upon her in 1870 and unfortunately, Tom Smith was not her son. I do believe however, that she is connected. Tom Smith named one of his sons; William T. Smith. He is one of my grandfather's brothers that was married to May Cockrum. Maybe an aunt to him? 22 September 1870 Independence Co., Arkansas census, Jefferson Township, Polk Bayou: SMITH, Henry T. 40 M W working on farm --/100 TN #118/125 Martha 40 F W keeping house AR John F. 12 M W works on farm AR Rebecca C. 11 F W AR Sarah J. 9 F W AR William T. 5 M W AR Reuben 2 M W AR Melvina 2 F W AR Have you ever run across this Henry T. Sarah FRANKS is daughter of Nancy Lavina YOUNG (1837, Benton County, AL - 30 June 1920, Norfork, Baxter, AR) and Henry C. FRANKS (27 May 1844 - 1878, Big Flat, Baxter, AR). They married in Savanah, Harden County, TN on 20 December 1866. His parents: Frederick FRANKS and Nancy HARRISON. > > Nancy Lavina YOUNG's first marriage was to David Richard LEE, (1835, TN - 27 May 1865, Union - Civil War Casualty) on 13 February 1855, Savanah, Harden, TN. > > Some of the information does "bump" into families we know at Big Flat and other locations, particularly from some marriages of the LEE children. You may see some connections I don't recognize but I didn't see connections to Izard County FRANKS. Of course, Henry C. FRANKS may be related back in Tennessee. > > Mary Ann's data may help to sort out some you have found in the same area, but couldn't identify. I'm sure she would welcome your input. For instance, just looking for this "Rance" SPENCER and found some SMITH siblings (Lou Ann that married Thomas Edward KNIGHT; Daisy, Albert, Lee) in household of their sister, Georgia, and her husband, William B. LACK, in Big Creek Township, Marion County, Arkansas 1900 census. Fortunately, I knew who they were, as they were shown to be siblings of William B. LACK and not of Georgia. > > I'm sending another note -- because I want you to be sure to read it. > > Peggy > > > ==== ARBAXTER Mailing List ==== > NOTICE: Posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political > announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, > etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. > Consideration for exceptions, contact Kathleen Burnett [email protected] > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > >
