In my notes: "See page 25 of Early Marriages of Baxter County: J. L. SPENCER to Sarah FRANKS 10 May 1896" My reason for having this is I am not sure if Jacob Lee "J. L." is one and same person as Jacob Lee Ramsom SPENCER, b. abt. 1857, d. abt. 1917, buried in Mountain Home Cemetery, Mountain Home, Baxter County, Arkansas. I was told by Lucille {KING} HAVNER-FINLEY that Jacob Lee Ramsom SPENCER was her grandfather, being father of Lillie "Mae" SPENCER, b. 9 April 1885, d. 29 May 1945, who married Noah Webster KING. Lucille gave me her grandmother's name as Elizabeth GEISLER (1859 - February 1929 (wife of Jacob Lee Ransom SPENCER). There must have divorced, because Elizabeth became second wife of William M. CANTRELL (1847 - 1937), to whom she was married at time of her death in 1929. My mother said that Lucille had "Grandma CANTRELL." Note: Vera, we have worked on this before. I show CANTRELL married Maudie ACKLIN after 1929. Would you have information to confirm that the Jacob L. SPENCER who married Sarah FRANKS is one and same person as Jacob Lee Ransom SPENCER? No wife is shown as buried at Mountain Home Cemetery in book, "Of Grave Importance," but she may be included in online update. Peggy
I had assumed that grandmother of Lucille {KING} HAVNER - FINLEY was CANTRELL until Lucille corrected me. This was because my mother referred to Lucille's grandmother as "Grandma" CANTRELL -- in these notes. This is about Morrison "Maston" FINLEY, twin brother of Thomas Jackson FINLEY, born 22 November 1895, d. September 1979; buried at Burnt Schoolhouse Cemetery. Mary Gertrude {PERRY} KING (1896 - 1993) -- a first cousin: " ... Maston was seriously burned as a child. I'm not sure how he got into the fire -- it was some sort of sage fire. He was burned severely on the face and down the chest. He was scarred -- never had to shave. Being burned may have stunted his growth, as he was always small. He had red hair and the part of his face that wasn't scarred had lots of freckles. His life was saved by "Grandma" Cantrell, Lucille's grandmother. She came to their home and stayed when Maston was burned. She used remedies she knew and worked with him. She saved his life. ..." Maston FINLEY never married and had no children. He retired from aircraft work in Wichita, Kansas. Peggy
In the Mountain Home Cemetery I show Spencer, Jacob L. 1857-1917 shares stone with Spencer, Sarah F. 1876-1968 Baxter County marriages Spencer, J. L. 37 m. 10 May 1896 Franks, Sarah 20 Don't know if that helps confirm that the Jacobs are the same.
Thank you, Vera, for the information that Sarah {FRANKS} SPENCER is also buried in Mountain Home Cemetery. I found them yesterday in 1910 census in Buckhorn Township, Baxter County, Arkansas, and tried to post record to Baxter Message Board, but accidentally pressed a button and my message didn't post; therefore, didn't appear on Baxter List either. Will post that information again today to Message Board. Yes, the 1910 census and the cemetery record for Sarah confirms to me this is one and same person as Jacob Lee Ransom SPENCER. Thanks for your help! Peggy

Vera, I learned today that Jacob Lee Ransom SPENCER was shot and killed by "Joe" FRIX in 1917. This was apparently a trespassing dispute because SPENCER was hauling wood at the time. It is believed FRIX left the country. Wonder if this is Joseph A. FRIX (b. abt. 1878) who married Mary HENLEY (b. abt. 1879) in Baxter County on 9 November 1899. Did his sister, Winnie FRIX, marry William Harvey RAYMOND (whose wife was Eliza Jane McNEILL)? Their father was also Joseph or Joe FRIX. Would you be able to find any newspaper record? There may be a probate of SPENCER will. He had children by both marriages (1) Elizabeth GEISLER; (2) Sarah FRANKS. Peggy

Peggy Any idea which Franks family that this Sarah was connected to? Bernie Moore-Knowles Phoenix, Arizona - Papa'aloa, Hawai'i "I have Indian blood in me.
