You all? Is there a community called Dora, Arkansas..........either in Boone, Baxter or Marion Counties? Trying to transcribe the one criminal record that I have for my Thomas J. Smith. Witnesses for the defense that were called were a Rev. Harrison, Ben Robbins, Mr. Adorn (?), P. H. Hill and his wife; Nancy Smith. Sure looks like the document is saying that the Reverend, Robbins and Nancy were living in a Dora, Arkansas? Any thoughts? Would appreciate any help on the area and the folks listed - the handwriting is sure hard to decipher. Bernie Moore-Knowles Papa'aloa, Hawai'i "I have Indian blood in me. Hi girls A little behind on the responses, aren't I? Peggy was right on - I sure wish that she was my Dollie Smith - but, mine was born in 1886 and the Dollie that was married to Hornbuckle was born in 1880. My Dollie was the oldest child of Nannie Sinor and Tom Smith and a sister to my grandfather; Sherman Lee Smith. The family was found living in the Barren Creek Township in 1900: 13 June 1900 Baxter Co., Arkansas census, Barren Creek Township: SMITH, Thomas J. head W M Apr 1866 34 md/13 yrs MO TN AR farmer can read & write Owns free farm #114/114 Nancy wife W F Sept 1864 35 md/13 yrs 6/5 AR TN TN can read & write Dollie daughter W F May 1886 14 single AR MO AR Sherman son W M Sept 1888 12 single AR MO AR Monroe son W M June 1889 11 single AR MO AR (marked out and has died) Louis son W M June 1896 3 single Ind Terr MO AR Willie son W M June 1898 2 single Ind Terr MO AR Marvil son W M Feb 1899 1 single AR MO AR When I first started researching my Dollie Smith - I had various vintage photographs of her, her husband whom my Mother and Father always referred to as Cooney Rust. Lastly, I had a photograph of Mr. Rust's gravemarker. I was able to see the dates: November 27, 1887 - August 25, 1935. We do not know where Conrad Rust is buried; but have narrowed it to Savannah, Georgia or Baltimore, Maryland. Besides living with her birth family; the first record that I have of Dollie is this: 15 April 1910 Pulaski Co., Arkansas census, Little Rock, Big Rock Township, household #6/6, Markham Street: LEONARD, May head F W 30 md/1 15 yrs 1/1 MT MO MO keeper/rooming house MITCHELL, Ruby boarder F W 24 md/1 3 yrs 0/0 IL US ENG SMITH, Dollie boarder F W 23 md/1 1 (?) yrs 1/0 OK OK OK JOHNSON, Elsie boarder F W 16 single US US US CARROLL (?), Hildie boarder F W 23 md/1 6 yrs 0/0 NC NC NC MOON, Lillian boarder F W 19 md/1 3 yrs 1/0 AR AR AR Now, the best that I could transcribe this census record; it reveals that Dollie has had a child and that child is no longer living. It may well be that Dollie gave birth and gave the child up. Dollie was a call girl, folks and the 1910 Little Rock census above shows her living in a house of ill repute. I know of no children that Dollie ever had; so I was surprised when I saw this. But, it does say that she is married and has been for one year? I "assume" that Dollie and Conrad Rust were married. No record has been found, though and if I had to guess; I would say that they probably met in Little Rock? 08 June 1900 Pulaski Co., Arkansas census, Big Rock Township, city of Little Rock, Cumberland Street: RUST, Andrew head W M Nov 1852 47 md/25 yrs Germany Germany Germany migrated in 1882/18 yrs teacher of languages #234/265 Bertha wife W F Oct 1858 41 md/25 yrs 13/9 Germany Germany Germany migrated in 1882/18 yrs Tillie daughter W F Feb 1877 23 single Germany Germany Germany migrated in 1882/18 yrs clerk confectionary Oscar son W M June 1880 19 single Germany Germany Germany migrated in 1882/18 yrs laborer-hardware Louis son W M Apr 1883 18 single Germany Germany Germany migrated in 1882/18 yrs laborer-hardware Conrad son W M Nov 1888 11 single IL Germany Germany George son W M Nov 1890 9 single IL Germany Germany Aloyse son W M Jan 1893 7 single AR Germany Germany Rumueld son W M Jan 1895 5 single AR Germany Germany Leo son W M Feb 1897 3 single AR Germany Germany 19 January 1920 Tulsa Co., Oklahoma census, Sand Springs Township: RUST, Conrad P. head M W 32 married IL Germany Germany Supt in oil refinery #93/93 Dollie wife F W 33 married AR AR AR 09 April 1930 Baltimore Co., Maryland census, Independent City, Pataps Avenue, Block #297, 25th Ward, Palaps W. At some point she did remarry there in the Tulsa area to a fellow Indian; Eston Brackett and she is buried with his name and next to him at the Woodland Memorial Park Cemetery; in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. She passed away in 1951. A few years ago a Brackett descendant interviewed Dollie's stepson; who by this time was quite elderly and living in nearby Broken Arrow. Sonny Brackett said that he was raised by Dollie and had fond memories of her. A woman of few words, he said. Sure makes you wonder about our ancestors, doesn't it? "I have Indian blood in me. Mary, no, this Dollie Belle SMITH (b. 25 May 1880, IL - d. 12 October 1964, San Bernadino County, CA) was daughter of Albert R. H. Since I have the month and year of births, it appears I transcribed the 1900 census for this family. Hope this helps.
