Thank you, Vera, for the information that Sarah {FRANKS} SPENCER is also buried in Mountain Home Cemetery. I found them yesterday in 1910 census in Buckhorn Township, Baxter County, Arkansas, and tried to post record to Baxter Message Board, but accidentally pressed a button and my message didn't post; therefore, didn't appear on Baxter List either. Will post that information again today to Message Board. Yes, the 1910 census and the cemetery record for Sarah confirms to me this is one and same person as Jacob Lee Ransom SPENCER. Thanks for your help! Peggy
> Would you have information to confirm that the Jacob L. SPENCER who married Sarah FRANKS is one and same person as Jacob Lee Ransom SPENCER? No wife is shown as buried at Mountain Home Cemetery in book, "Of Grave Importance," but she may be included in online update. In the Mountain Home Cemetery I show Spencer, Jacob L. 1857-1917 shares stone with Spencer, Sarah F. 1876-1968 Baxter County marriages Spencer, J. I had assumed that grandmother of Lucille {KING} HAVNER - FINLEY was CANTRELL until Lucille corrected me. This was because my mother referred to Lucille's grandmother as "Grandma" CANTRELL -- in these notes. This is about Morrison "Maston" FINLEY, twin brother of Thomas Jackson FINLEY, born 22 November 1895, d. September 1979; buried at Burnt Schoolhouse Cemetery. Mary Gertrude {PERRY} KING (1896 - 1993) -- a first cousin: " ... Maston was seriously burned as a child. I'm not sure how he got into the fire -- it was some sort of sage fire. He was burned severely on the face and down the chest. He was scarred -- never had to shave. Being burned may have stunted his growth, as he was always small. He had red hair and the part of his face that wasn't scarred had lots of freckles. His life was saved by "Grandma" Cantrell, Lucille's grandmother. She came to their home and stayed when Maston was burned. She used remedies she knew and worked with him. She saved his life. ..." Maston FINLEY never married and had no children. He retired from aircraft work in Wichita, Kansas. Peggy
In my notes: "See page 25 of Early Marriages of Baxter County: J. L. SPENCER to Sarah FRANKS 10 May 1896" My reason for having this is I am not sure if Jacob Lee "J. L." is one and same person as Jacob Lee Ramsom SPENCER, b. abt. 1857, d. abt. 1917, buried in Mountain Home Cemetery, Mountain Home, Baxter County, Arkansas. I was told by Lucille {KING} HAVNER-FINLEY that Jacob Lee Ramsom SPENCER was her grandfather, being father of Lillie "Mae" SPENCER, b. 9 April 1885, d. 29 May 1945, who married Noah Webster KING. Lucille gave me her grandmother's name as Elizabeth GEISLER (1859 - February 1929 (wife of Jacob Lee Ransom SPENCER). There must have divorced, because Elizabeth became second wife of William M. CANTRELL (1847 - 1937), to whom she was married at time of her death in 1929. My mother said that Lucille had "Grandma CANTRELL." Note: Vera, we have worked on this before. I show CANTRELL married Maudie ACKLIN after 1929. Peggy

The William Green family lived next door to them Just wonder it the Jarel was his son > Annis, where was William Martin GREEN in 1880 census? Perhaps a search of neighboring households on LDS site may assist in locating her -- probably with her family. The 1900 census shows her born in Arkansas, as well as her parents.
I don't have William Martin Green for 1880. Is William Martin a brother to Thomas J. Green living with the Taylors in 1880 in Mountain Home twp for Baxter Co? Thomas parents are Rolen Green and Rebecca Stone ans they had a son named William Annis

The marriage record I have does not show her as "Mrs" H. J. Green Abe Peak 21 m. 14 Dec 1897 H. J. Green 26 This doesn't seem to match the married 1 year in 1900 census. Then there was this marriage Mrs Hiley Peak 30 m. 13 Sep 1902 R. B. Smith 31 Hatch, Batch and Dispatch (index to the old newspapers) By Margie Garr shows that Hiley J. Peak can be found on page 16. I found it on page 6 instead. date of issue Sep 26, 1902 under license issued one of the couples is R. B. Smith and Hiley J. Peak. > << What is Mrs. H. J. On the census record for Jane H. (aka Hiley Jane), I neglected to include she had given birth to five children and five were living. Now, Annis, her age just can't be correct -- she would have only been 12 years of age when Maggie, b. March 1884, was born. As we've seen before, married to a much younger man, she didn't want to tell how old she really was. I went through 1880 census, trying to find a Hiley -- but now we see the time frame we thought correct is not. Peggy

Couple of questions on the Greens Who was Irvin Green parents? What is Mrs.H. J. Green name, she married a Abe Peaks sometime around1898 in Baxter Co. AR Annis
I researched the family of Sid Hulsey when I was working on the Hulsey book about 1988/89. After a close look at all the evidence for Hulseys in Carroll County, Arkansas, I concluded that the Sid Hulsey who turned up in Baxter County was actually Armistead Hulsey, son of Elijah and Savilla Hulsey who were in Carroll County in 1850, Pope County, Arkansas in 1860 and Van Buren County, Arkansas in 1870. Sid was apparently a nickname for Armistead and was sometimes recorded as Sidney. My relative, Cleora Robertson, who lived in Baxter County all her life, remembered this family and was acquainted with Belle Estes. This family was also associated with the Talburt family. Armistead's sister, Martha Anne Hulsey, was married to Joseph Talburt, in May 1868, probably Van Buren County. They also were in Baxter County in 1880 with children Walter E. age 10, Sydney Johnson Talburt born 1873, Georgeanne Talburt born 1875, Noah BTalburt born 1877. Cleora thought they might have lived in stone County in the early 1900s. Martha Anna, a widow, is in the 1910 Baxter County Census. I had input from Lorraine Hamilton on this family in the 1980s, Sidney Talburt was her ancestor. Armistead or Sid, b 1844, was in Baxter County in 1880 with wife Catharine born in 1846 and children Elijah born 1871 and Belle born 1873. Cleora Robertson remembered a very controversial court case where Sidney Hulsey was charged with larceny. I found this was in September 1883. Sidney said he would not get a fair trial in Baxter County, so the trial was held in Fulton County. Cleora said that many people thought he was framed for this crime. An accomplice, Thomas Euclady, was sentenced to one year in the State penitentiary. Sid was sentenced to five years and Cleora said that he died in prison. I believe the crime was stealing hogs. There were as many witnesses for Sid as there were against him and Joseph Talburt was one of those who was for him. There was also a court Suit in 1882 were Katie Hulsey (Catherine) was a witness for the plaintiff and SydneyHulsey was a witness for the defendant. Cleora Robertson said that Belle Hulsey married Bill Estes. In 1900 Baxter County Arkansas, Catherine Halsey who was born February 1848, a widow, said she was a mother of five children with one living. This must have been her daughter, DoraBelle Hulsey, in the household, was born March 1879 and said she was divorced. In 1910 Baxter County, William Estes, with wife Dora Belle born 1878 said she was a mother of two children, one of them living I imagine this must have been Fforest Estes age 4 that one living child. Kate Hulsey was also in the household listed as mother in law, she was 64. Cleora Robertson only remembered one child of Belle's, a daughter, Minnie, who married Puss Irwin and died in a car wreck. I notice that the age given for Belle Estes Ivens is Off a bit from the census information. If she was 52 in 1930 that would put her birth at 1878, which is more consistent with the daughter of Sidney and Catherine Hulsey. Cleora said that Belle begged her to see that she (Belle) was buried in the cemetery at Mountain Home. I guess she didn't get her wish. Also, I don't know if the origins of the Green family in Baxter County is known, but if they are associated with Hulseys, you might want to check in Carroll County, Arkansas, and also in Franklin County, Alabama, where Greens are associated with Hulsey, King, and Tharp and other families who came to Baxter County in the 1870s. Just a thought, I have no other evidence.
