    1. Re: [ARBAXTER] "Baxter County Fair - Buford, 1911" picture (Bernie)
    2. Peggy Truesdell
    3. Bernie, the picture in the history book was same as one in possession of my Aunt Cleora {KING} ROBERTSON. More than twenty years ago, I made a negative. There are about 15 to 20 men in picture and my aunt identifies more than two named in the book. As I remember, one is LEMON; and, of course, one is my great-great-grandfather, Willliam Alexander RIDGWAY. History book caption: "The Old America Parade entry at the first Baxter County Fair, held at the Fairground, Buford, in 1911. The men range in age from 57 to 87. Man at far left waving hat is E. W. Smothers. Man standing in the center, under sign, is G. W. Anglin. To Mr. Anglin's left is G. N. Nelson." Peggy

    1. Re: [ARBAXTER] Willilam BAGWELL, b. 1858 (Vera & Bernie)
    2. Peggy Truesdell
    3. FYI only, Ladies, I believe the William BAGWELL in Mary AIKENS' household is in following marriage: Early Marriages of Baxter County, page 27: W. A. BAGWELL to Nettie LEMANS, March 1, 1897. Nettie's name should be LEMON / LEMONS. A LEMON descendant, living in Broken Arrow, told me a few months ago, they are related to the BAGWELL family. This would be one connection, and there could be another. Bernie, the LEMONs lived at Buford, too. An elderly LEMON gentleman is in the picture of "The Buford Fair" in the Baxter County history book. Either my Aunt Cleora ROBERTSON identified him or my mother and his descendant, Ora "Mae" {McEACHERN} CLAYTON. Mae's mother was Sarah LEMON and her father was from Baxter County, too. Peggy

    3. Ark Death Record Index shows Jordan, J. D. d. 2-7-1923 in Baxter County The latest up-date on the Fairview Cemetery shows John D. Jordan - h/o Mary M. Jordan 1857-1923 ***** Vera, as the "Court of Last Resort," you were a lot of help. So, Vera and Bernie, for some strange reason John D. JORDAN was known as "Bob" -- at least by those writing the articles for the newspaper. I'm satisfied now. Peggy

    2. Peggy Truesdell
    3. << Wonder if this Mary is David and Charles Jordan's sister that was enumerated as Mary Napier in the 1850 census? >> Bernie, the math is exactly right. Perhaps we can backtrack and find her in 1860 and 1870 census records. Probably no finding a pre-1880 marriage. If we can't get right name (AIKENS) in index, perhaps we can find her living somewhere around Charles "C. A." JORDAN and family. And, that name Cinderella -- we might find her in search of 1880 census. Surely not too many named Cinderella. Oh, all this is so much fun. Peggy

    1. Re: [ARBAXTER] Salem Church - Primitive Baptist Church 1922 - Peggy
    2. Dorothy Boynton
    3. Peggy, I am interested in the picture which states a Mr. Osborne. I might be able to identify him if he is my grandfather. He died in Oct 1917, when was the picture made. He would have been realted to the Jones family by marriager of his son Jacob Richardson Osborne to Lele Savage Jones. db Peggy Truesdell <[email protected]> wrote: This picture was sent to my Grandmother King by her daughter, Cleora ROBERTSON, with note: "Early years where Great-grandpa, others, worshipped. Primitive Baptist Church. Great-grandpa's funeral held here July 1917." (in picture) Mr. Osborne; Cleora; Mrs. Tom Knight; Mrs. Jones; Mr. Jones; Brewer Robertson; Mrs. Faucett; Mrs. John Smith (Preacher; Mrs. "One-arm" Smith. All are standing to left of a tree. Two unidentified women are to the right of the tree. Mrs. Tom Knight (nee Lou Ann SMITH). Mrs. Jones / Mr. Jones -- probably son of George Washington Jones, with his wife. Brewer = Theodore Brewer "T. B." ROBERTSON. I'm not familiar with Mrs. FAUCETT. I described this picture to Stella JACKSON years ago -- over the telephone -- and she thought these SMITHs were hers. Bernie, as far as I know, hers weren't related to yours. I have information on her family. Believe Salem Church was at or near Shady Grove, according to my gggrandfather's narrative. So, this information from Vera sure confuses the matter more, doesn't it? I think we (or I) can eliminate Bob as Mary's husband - but, is it James or John for her? Sounds like it should be John - but Peggy............you say some obits referenced her husband as being James? I need to go back and reread all yours and Vera's posts. In obituary (from Baxter Message Board) for Ray JORDAN, brother Roy is listed as survivor. And -- so confusing -- Roy's obituary shows his father as "Bob" JORDAN. Until yesterday, I was showing husband of Mary M. "Mollie" BETTIS as Robert -- that's why I didn't have her connected to her parents. This line is "of interest" to me -- not my direct line -- so will keep plugging away, looking for new information. Peggy

    3. Peggy Do you know how this man is related to John D. Jordan? The Baxter Bulletin February 16, 1923 Issue BOB JORDAN Bob Jordan, a pioneer citizen of this county died at his home in Buford last Thursday, after a short illness from pneumonia. He is survived by his wife and several grown children. Mr. Jordan was a resident of this place for a number of years, having been engaged in the blacksmith business. He moved to Buford several years ago and continued his business there up to the time of his death. He was a highly respected citizen and will be missed by his friends and associates. He was buried at the Fairview cemetery near Buford. Note: Date of death was February 8, 1923. The Baxter Bulletin March 2, 1923 Issue BUFORD The flu hit us hard but is gradually abating; only one death, that of R. C. (G.?) Jordan. Mr. Jordan had lived near Buford bearly all his life. He was a splendid citizen, a good neighbor, honest and industrious and in his daily walk he stood before the community the full measure of a man. I ask because if you'll notice, the death date for this Robert C. Jordan was February 1923, also. What do you think? My gggrandmother; Martha Matilda Smothers had a sister that was named Sarah Jane Smothers (b1833). She was married to a David Jordan and had one daughter; per this 1860 census: 21 July 1860 Marion Co., Arkansas census, Barren Creek Township, Buffalo City: JOURDAN, David 28 M W farmer 200/150 AR #819 Sarah J. 26 F W TN Mary A. 2 F W AR I do not know if Jordan survived the War or for that matter; Smothers researchers do not know what happened to Sarah Jane or her daughter. If anyone knows anything about this particular Jordan line; I'd appreciate a post. I believe that David Jordan was connected to the following family: 1850 Fulton Co., Arkansas census, Big North Fork Township: JOURDAN, C. A. 21 AR #11 Nancy 25 TN Maria 11/12 AR NAPIER, Mary 23 AR JOURDAN, Cindarilla 16 AR Nancy 14 AR David 19 laborer AR ...................married Sarah Jane Smothers 09 June 1870 Marion Co., Arkansas census, Barren Creek Township, Whiteville Post Office: JORDAN, Charley 41 M W farmer 300/500 AR #51/52 Nancy 45 F W keeping house TN James 19 M W AR John D. 13 M W AR Cookson (?) 14 M W AR Alford 8 M W AR Mary C. 6 F W AR Ring any bells, anyone?
