Bernie -- I have extracted all the 1910 Barren Creek Township census records; and, at this time, I'm going through and identifying the wives by their maiden names -- if I have them. Are you printing the entire page from HQ? I need to learn how to do that -- what I'm doing is so labor intensive. However, I seem to retain the names better when I write them, rather than just reading through them. It's amazing that out of all the many pages, there are less than ten families that are "newcomers" to Barren Creek in 1910. Most have lived there for three, four or more decades. In the "mix" are descendants of Harvey Alexander SMITH (1819, poss. Maury County, TN - 1887, Seymour, MO) who married 2 April 1844 in Saint Francois County, MO: Sarah BALDWIN (1825 - 1906, Mountain Grove, MO), daughter of Benjamin BALDWIN. I have 14 children for them, and several lived in Baxter County. Webster and Madison Counties in Missouri are where they married or were born. Martin L. SMITH (wife Bessie SMITH -- her maiden name) is one of theirs. Lafayette SMITH is son of Hensley SMITH. Can't identify William SMITH, 36, b. MO / MO / MO, whose wife is Susie. They are 92 / 93 with four children. Fred T. SMITH (b. 1880) is brother of Charley E. SMITH -- husband of your Dora SINOR. They are sons of Thomas J. SMITH and Elizabeth C. BALL. Yes, quite confusing with so many marriages into your families. Just looked through all the 1910 pages and don't see any more "maverick" (unidentified) SMITHs. So, I'm not able to tell you much you don't already know -- but will keep looking. Have a good night. Peggy
Peggy I know that in 1900, the Thomas J. Smith and Elizabeth Ball family was living either near of right next to the Strattons. I looked in what I had - and the Smiths had a son named William, although I do not have any information on him. He was not listed in the 1900 Smith household; so must have been "of age" at that time - which would ring true with the 30 year old Will Smith, in the 1910 Mary Stratton household, I would think. But, if I had to guess - I would think that this Willliam in 1910 was their son. But, Peggy............check this one out? 1930 Buford Township, Baxter County, Arkansas, household # 64/64: SMITH, Willie M head 71 IL NY Scotland Wonder who he was? Many of Thomas and Elizabeth Ball Smith's children intermarried with my families - and one would think that he would be connected to my own Tom Smith - but, nothing yet. Nothing yet. They also had a daughter named Kate and she was married to a Massey. Any ideas at all on which Massey family that would be? Yes, Edith "Fern" WOOD [also WOODS] is my relative. Her mother was Iva "Lois" KING and father was Loranzy Z. WOOD. Parents of Loranzy D.: Arizona Belle COCKRUM and William O. WOOD (of Big Flat -- b. abt. 1867 - d. bet. 1893-1899). [Have never found his family.] Parents of Iva "Lois" KING: Maggie Alice SANDERS (b. 1877, Success, MO - d. 1958, Springfield, MO) and Charles Oliver KING (1866, AL - 1945, Baxter County, AR). Charles Oliver KING was nephew to my grandfather, Robert Polk KING (1865 - 1945). They were raised together -- like brothers. Not sure if there are two Harley BURLESONs -- perhaps now that can access more census, can be more sure. I show Fern married Harley Herman BURLESON in 1936. Fern had no children. She next married Cecil FARMER in 1955, who died in 1989. Then, some years before her death in 2002, she married a widower, William EDGIN. They lived in Mountain Home and I last visited her in 1998. Mr. EDGIN was from another state (North, it seems) and he and his wife had come to the area because of his work. Thanks for your responses. Peggy
