    3. According to my Ashley County Eagle book, "Mrs. M.A. Hendrix was born in Sumpter, S.C., on Dec. 26th, 1846, a daughter of Sam and Rachel Lowry. She married W.E. Evans Dec. 26th, 1865. To this union were born six children, three dead and three living: Edward, Thomas, and Charlie. Her second marriage was to John Hendrix in 1881. To this union three daughters were added: Mrs. Florence Gardner, Mrs. Callie Ross, and Mrs. Emma Day. The only surviving member of her father's family is her brother, Mr. S.A. Lowry. She died of a long and painful illness, consumption, on Dec. 13th, 1911. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Eastern Star." --page 219 "Excerpts from the Ashley County Eagle, Arkansas 1889-1914" "Mrs. M.A. Hendrix was born in Sumpter, S.C., Dec. 26th, 1846. Her parents, Samuel and Rachel Lowery, moved to Ashley County in Dec. 1855, and settled in the western part of the county now known as Milo. She was married to W.T. Evans Dec. 26th, 1865. To them were born seven children, three of whom now live: Thomey, Eddy, and Charley, all prominent men of the county. She was left a widow, Mr. Evans being killed in an accident. Her second marriage was to I.[J?] W. Hendrix; to them were born three children: Calley, Florence, and Edney, all married and doing well. She departed this life Dec. 11th, 1911, age nerly 66 years. She was a consistent member of the Methodist Church, and a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Hendrix was a remarkable woman, far-sighted in business, and one of the best managers I ever saw. -- W.H. Lindsey" -- page 221 I think you hit the jackpot! There are several other items about these names in the book. Alice reddin59@bellsouth.net wrote: > Can anyone help me with information on William T. 1. [ARASHLEY] Mattie Ford Lowry
    2. Would someone do a lookup for me in the book "Excerpts from the Ashley County Eagle, Arkansas 1889-1914"? My great grandmother, Martha S. "Mattie" Ford Lowry (wife of Samuel W. Lowry), died sometime between 1891 and 1893. Is there a notice of the death listed? I am trying to pin down the actual date and place of death and the place of burial. Thank you. Tom Reddin
