I am searching for information about my great, great, grand father Conway Hughes. He was born in Orange County, Virginia in April of 1830. He died on July 8, 1915 in White County. He may have been a slave in Virginia, but can't find any evidence of this. He has been listed as black in one census and as mulatto in another census. He may have moved around a lot. He was on a ship called the USS Prairie Bird during the Civil war. He was enlisted from 1863 to 1865. I am trying to fill in the gaps, since one census has him living in Virginia, another has him living in Arkansas, and still another has him living in Mississippi.
