    2. I have the Book - "Tomstone Inscriptions and Notes of Ashley County, AR" I checked under Osborn, Osbourne, etc. There are no Polly's listed there. You also have Henson listed in subject of your email. Could she have been a Henson. There are numerous Henson's in the book. The map I have shows a Millers Chapel right before the Chicot County Border, but I don't see a Singleton, AR. I'll be happy to help in anyway I can. I have the following books: Tombstones Marriage records 1849-1910 Ashley Co. 1870-1880 US Fed Census, Ashley Co. 1890 Tax List Index - Ashley Co. 1880 US Federal Census - entire US. Antioch Methodist Church - Membership Roster Unity Baptist Church - Membership Roster and minutes of meetings. (Im currently transcribing this one.) If you think of anything else that might help , let me know. Louann

    2. I checked my tombstone inscriptions of Ashley County, and I do not find a Miller's Chapel listed as a cemetery or anything. There is 2 Osborne, Rufus A. and Thurmond. and numerous Hensons listed. If you will send me the info I'll check for the Henson names even though Miller's Chapel isn't listed. They changed the name of cemeteries so much. Louann

    3. The only information I have is skimpy. While traveling they were near Singleton AR and she is supposedly buried in Miller's Chapel Cemetery. I looked on an old map and found Miller's Chapel in the SE corner of Ashley Cty. Straight across from Wilmot but before the county boarder. Her name was Polly Ann (Henson) Osburn. This was approx 1858. I am not sure if there was a settlement called Miller's Chapel or exactly what was there. I am hoping to gain some insight to the area and cemeteries. I do so much appreciate your generous help. 1. Re: [ARASHLEY] first post! Researching DEAN and BARNES families
    2. I think I can help you on this one. In the Ashley Co. Marriage records 1849 - 1910 there is a Nathaniel Dean, Married Martha Ann Barnes nov 9, 1853 recorded iin Book AA35. Also, on the USGENWEB page there is a link to the confederate soldiers. You can check there. Louann p.s. if I knew a little more aboutt the mother I can check the tombstone inscriptions for that period of time.

    1. [ARASHLEY] first post! Researching DEAN and BARNES families
    2. Amy Rupp
    3. One of my most mysterious ancestors and most "recently" born brick wall is Nathan(iel) or Monroe T.? DEAN, born in Alabama. He married Martha Ann BARNES, daughter of Solomon, in Mist, Ashley County, Arkansas ca 1855. A distant family member who has supposedly seen the marriage certificate swears the first name is Nathaniel; our family history says Monroe. Martha's mother died in Ashley County (I am blanking on her name!) abt. 1858 and Solomon moved the family to Texas. They are enumerated in 1860 Texas as "M. T." and "M. A." -- I could go stomp on the grave of the enumerator who apparently was into taking only initials, because they had two daughters, born in either Arkansas or Texas, who died as young children, and all I have left are their initials. Julia R. Dean was born abt. 1861 in Texas and shortly thereafter Nathan(iel)/Monroe returned to Arkansas to enlist in the Confederate army; he was in the same regiment as a cousin? Jeremiah DEAN's son W. D. Both men died of illness in the war, while still in Arkansas. The regiment was organized at Hamburg, Ashley County. I'm also unclear on where Nathan(iel)/Monroe is buried -- in a military site or in Ashley County, because he is not buried in Texas. Family history says he died of yellow fever near Little Rock. There are two N. DEANs who died in Arkansas, one indeed near Little Rock, but in 1863, and the initials do not match as closely. The other, N. T., died in 1862 in Pine Bluff, I believe. Any pointers to marriage certificates or online cemetery listings may be useful, as would be any Civil War era information on the men who died who were from Ashley County. Thank you for any help! --Amy

    1. Re: [ARASHLEY] honeycutt and shelton
    2. First, check and see if you have an E. W. Honeycutt who married John Carter feb 26m 1873. If so I have marrisge License. Next check and see if you have an Amanda Ann Morris who married Robert Canon Morris. Marriage Records for Ashley County 1859-1910 shows the following: George Newton Honeycutt m. Nancy F. Gilliam May 18, 1861 Book AA-177 There are numerous males on the Grooms list. Let me knowif you want that info. There is approx. 20 men listed. \ On the Grooms list I found numerous men named Shelton. but none match your gr gr granmother. I checked the Honeycutt brides' list also. and I found no Brides for a John Thomas Shelton. I also checked the tombstone inscriptions for Ashley County and found no Shelton's listed. That seems unusual to me. George W. Honeycutt - Crossroads Cemetery Jan 1, 1915 - May 17, 1960 no inscription except dates. Ruth ROBERTS HONEYCUTT next to him July 15, 1894 - May 21, 1986 No inscription except dates Hope this information helps you. Louann

    3. Hello: I am searching for info on George Newton Honeycutt and Nancy F. Gilliam, who mar. May 18, 1861, Ashley Co., AR. Nancy is my gr-gr-grandmother. I know that George was in the CW; did he die before 1870 and thereabout? Supposedly Nancy remarried John Thomas Shelton II sometime bef. or @ 1872--her child John Thomas Shelton III, b. Nov. 25, 1872, AR, was my gr-grandfather. Nancy is found on the Bolivar Co., MS 1880 census, as widowed/divorced, with 4 children: George - age 13, John Thomas III - age 8, b. AR; M. (Mittie Lucille) - age 5, b. AR; and Joseph, age 3. I can only account for John Thomas Shelton III and M. (Mittie Lucille), who were bro./sister. Again, did Nancy divorce Shelton, or did he die? She remarried May 4, 1882, to W. H. Burnside/s, Bolivar Co., MS. Any information on Nancy, Honeycutt, or Tom Shelton II would be most appreciated. Thank you. pat dakin patdakin@mindspring.com

    1. [ARASHLEY] Who submitted the John L. Wolfe information?
    2. John Ozment
    3. _____ 25 March 2002 Dear Drew, Bradley, and Ashley County lists: Does anyone know who submitted the LDS' IGI information regarding John L. Wolfe, described below? All I can ascertain from it is that the ordinance "work" is "IN PROCESS," but no submitter or source information was present. I am trying to determine John's parents' identities, and this submitted information has it that they were John J. Wolf and Mary Stevens, names familiar to many on the lists, especially the Drew Co. list. However, I've been pretty reasonably assured by those researching Drew Co. Wolfes that my Bradley Co. ancestor, John Wolfe, was not among the sons of John J. Wolf. So, I then tried two different routes. Firstly, I investigated an oral tradition about Vicksburg, MS. However, in 1845 there were only two Wolf families in Vicksburg, and only two marriages, i.e., in 1841 and in 1844 ... but, nothing for Catherine Wolfe and Amos Savage, and nothing for the parents of Catherine and John. Secondly, I found Bradley Co.'s Perry Woolf's 1817 IGI birth information, derived from the Matlock family Bible on microfilm. Also, Perry Woolf's ancestry is documented back to 1724, both on the Web, and from descendancy charts from a specific researcher. Perry was a farmhand staying with Amos & Catherine (Laque Wolfe) Savage in Sumpter in 1850. But, Perry's father, Redding Woolf, had died about 1821, prior to the births of Catherine (1825-1860) and John (1828/29-1871+). Also, Catherine & John don't seem to exactly fit in (at present) with the families of the brothers of Redding Woolf, i.e. Fielding, Alfred, James Brandon, etc. So, then I noticed the "IN PROCESS" status for the LDS' ordinances, under IGI options, as reproduced below. So, I'm back to wondering again if it might not be so (about John J.), and about who the submitter might be. It would seem as though the submitter has a birthdate from a family Bible, by the looks of it (as there's no death date from a tombstone). Such a family Bible would be invaluable. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. --- WOLFE, John L. b. 29 Sep 1824, , Alabama Father: John J. Wolf Mother: Mary Stevens Baptized: IN PROCESS. Sealed: IN PROCESS. Sealed to Parents: IN PROCESS [...presumably Perry Co., AL] --- WOLFE, John L. m. abt. 1870, , Arkansas CURRY, Anna Belle Sealed to Spouse: IN PROCESS [These are my great, great-grandparents, but I'm not certain that John even had a middle initial. Their last child was John Lafayette Wolfe, b. 25 June 1871, Johnsville, Bradley Co., AR. My 1GGM was their firstborn, Louiza Catherine Wolfe (1854-1920). So, it would seem that the submitter is descended from their son, J.L.W., based on the date given, i.e., m. abt. 1870.] --- Please help, if you can. 1. [ARASHLEY] New Searcher to AR. Searching for E.A. Cothran's Children and Desendants
    2. Gail Moore
    3. Hello My name is Dolores Gail Cothran, I live in Florida I go back in time to a Hezikiah Cockrum from Greenville Dist. SC. He had a son he named William Cockrum who married Mary Polly Spillers in or near Greenville Dist. SC. They in turn had 11 children. Now this was all handed down to me in a bible. This bible belonged to George Washington Lafayette Cockrum a son of William and Polly. George had an older brother named Edward A. Cockrum who married Mary Ann White in Calhoun Co. AL they too are listed in this bible. Edward A. Cockrum used the surname at times of Cothrun and Cothran. He lived in Fulton Co. GA for a time. He then moved to Gadsden AL in Etowah Co. There he worked with his Niece's husband the owner and operator of that newspaper called the "Gadsden Times" >From Excerpts of this old paper I found this: 17 Dec. 1875 E. A. Cothrun, of this office, left Monday for Hamburg, Arkansas, on a visit to his children. He will return by the first of January and again enter upon his duties with the beginning of the Centennial year.........p.623 from the abstract book of this paper This is my Grand Uncle Edward A. Cothrun he was also called Judge. He was the Uncle of Charles Edgar Meeks the son of the owner of the paper. How this works is like this: George my Great Grandfather and E.A. Cothrun had another Brother named Hezikiah Allen Cockrum the eldest son of William and Polly............... Hezikiah Allen married Miss Mathela Crouch in Ceder Bluff AL a part of Cherokee Co. AL and to them were born several children I show either 5 or 6 not looking but I have them on the 1860 census of that place. Anyway one child a girl was named Mary Jane Cothran b. 1845 AL. She grew up and married William Marion Meeks and they were the Org. Meeks owners of the paper at one time. They were who E. A. Cothrun went to work for.................I know this because I found a article via the Library in Etowah Co. AL in Gadsden. The article was telling how Charlie Meeks had spent 54 years of his life connected to that paper between his Father running it and then him taking over as he came of age.................... Charlie then married Annie Lou Baugh of that place and they had some children a son and a daughter Charles Edgar Meeks Jr. and Eunice.................Eunice grew up and married Perry T. Dean.......this is important as they later when Charlie retired from the paper sometime just prior to May of 1964 and they all moved as a huge family unit to Miami, FL. In that article however Charlie named "his uncle Judge Cothran" it also named his Mother and listed her as Miss Mary Jane Cothran prior to marriage. NOW...................what I would love to learn by joining your list is this: Who were the children that Edward (E. A. better known as Judge) Cothran go to visit in HAMBURG in 1875? Could some kind sole living in that area help me out with this perhaps? I need a lookup in that area on both the 1870 and 1880 if it exists at all if not tax list would work for any people by that name or any variant. My problem is my Genealogy Library does not lend or borrow. I am not near by an LDS Library..............I live in a rural community we now have an LDS church but it is tiny and just beginning to take foot so it does not have a Library yet..................Next problem My Genealogy Library does not cross the Mason Dixon Line.........................I sure wish that it did. HELP......................................... Also if any one on this list connects into this please e-mail me right away as I have a ton of goodies to share with you. I go back 2 gen. past my Hezikiah...............his father was Daniel Cockrum of Halifax Co. VA who left his will there. He was listed as the only heir of his own Father Daniel Cockerham Sr. of Caroline Co. VA...................................I have a lot of wills and a bible record and censuses to boot. Thanks and it sure is nice to be here! Gail
