    1. [ARASHLEY] obit of Shelton Lee DAVIS / FERGUSON / HAMILTON / BRUMLEY lineage 4 generations
    2. GENIA EDMONDS
    3. Shelton Lee Davis, age 72, died March 2, 2007 at his residence in Steens, MS. Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 2:00p.m. with Bishop Robert Honsinger officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, March 4, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Mr Davis was born on April 23, 1934 in Calhoun County, Arkansas to the late Ben (Benjamin Franklin) Ferguson and Gladys Maybelle Davis. He was a member ( and a high priest ) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He worked for 25 years as an engineer for WCBI television and radio, and 10 years as a custodian at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is survived but his wife of 50 years, Lydia Louise (Stringer) Davis of Steens MS (formerly of Union Co, AR and Arizona) daughters; Genia, Elizabeth, Betty and sons; Shelton, and John . Also one Sister Katherine (Josephine Davis, Carter) Coulter of Las Vegas, NV, ten Grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. (His Brother, James H. Davis) passed away about 14 yrs ago in Virginia. Dad was born in Calhoun Co., Tinsman I believe, a graduate of, I suppose, the school in Tinsman where he played basketball. His teacher was Ms. Whitehead. Sometime in the early 50's when he was 20-21, he was stuck with polio. He received many letters from the community near Little Rock as the radio DJ talked about him and is situation. This polio effected him the rest of his life as he always had a limp and would never spend money on a corrective shoe. Growing up poor in Arkansas taught him to do without for the sake of his family. Dad met mom through working with her brothers at the saw mill, in Callion I think. Dad and Mom left Calhoun Co. area in 1959 in order to work and provide for his family. We visited many times until my grandparents passed away. I remember Ben living with us a little while when I was 4 or 5. Maybelle died when I was 11. We didn't make it back much after that. There were other relatives around back then. Great uncle Clarence and Argie Maude (Smith) Richards and their son CW. I knew Carlton and Irvin Taylor, children of Great Aunt Pearl Taylor. There was also great aunt Icie (Isa Lee) that had moved to Wisconsin. I think some time way back there I may have known great-Uncles Robert and Sammie Davis. There was little communication between them all. Shelton's maternal grandparents were Kathryn Josephine Hamilton and David D. Davis. Paternal grandparents were Mary Elizabeth (Malissa) Brumley and William Franklin Ferguson. Many of these family members are buried in Earnest Cemetery, Calhoun Co. AR. Shelton's maternal great-grandparents were John Hamilton ( eldest son of Jack Hamilton) and Catherine Brandon of Bradley Co. AR and Mary Davis (died young with typhoid) and husband unknown. Paternal great-grand parents were Wilson Ferguson and Elizabeth Wilson and Albert Burton Brumley and Martha M. Emerson.

    3. I am trying to find info on a J. D. Rasberry, 40, Preacher, who is found on the 1880 census of Ashley Co., AR (Pg 97, Fam#55). I believe me could be John D. Rasberry, from Lauderdale Co., MS. He was the son of Reddin Y. Rasberry, my gr-gr grandfather (also a minister). I'm also trying to determine if he is the same John Rasberry, 35, wife, Caroline, 30, appearing on the 1870 census of Bradley Co., AR. Any info will be very much appreciated. Bennie

    1. [ARASHLEY] Arkansas Gravestone Project
    2. Rita Wallace
    3. Today, November 18, 2008, the Arkansas Gravestone Project, URL: http://arkansasgravestones.org/ , has uploaded over 100,000 pictures of gravestones from Arkansas. Ashley County has only 99 gravestones on our website. My name is Rita Foster Wallace, the daughter of Harold & Elizabeth Foster, granddaughter of Jessie & Cynthia Jane (White) Foster.  I am also the county coordinator for Ashley & Chicot County, Arkansas. I reside in Cold Spring, Kentucky but am very interested in Ashley County history. Yesterday, after spending the weekend deer hunting, my father and nephew completed photographing Mount Pleasant Cemetery where most of our Foster family is buried.   I'm looking for volunteers to help me with this project by providing digital images of any and all gravestones you have in your collections and who would like to see genealogy information free on the Internet. Arkansas is not the only state working on the Gravestone Projects. This is just one way to give back to all those who have come before us in the genealogy field. Most of us don't have the time or the money to do original research in the states where our ancestors resided before they came to Arkansas. This project is a great resource for all of us. Please help if you can.   Rita Wallace 859-441-1935

    1. [ARASHLEY] Brady Family
    2. I am looking for information on the Brady family of Chicot/Ashley Counties. Thomas Brady was on the 1830 census. He had a rather large family. I think these may be some of his children: Nathaniel, Samuel, William, Mariah, Thomas and Lenora. Familysearch.org says that Nathaniel had a son Nat K. Brady who served in the Civil War and was paroled at Jamestown, SC on April 30, 1865. I am interested to see if Nathaniel Brady, Sr. had any other children. Does he have a will? 2. Rita what a generous/wonderful endeavor. Thanks a million, probably no hope of finding my grandmother Mattie Dell [Woods] Poole d: 1904 [in childbirth - m: Martin Meritt Poole] ....think she must be in an unmarked grave/unknown cemetery.....but I'm still hoping.
