I am desperately searching for ANYTHING on these people besides what I have already found. Alexander Stewart born 1837 in TN; died: Unknown; father unknown; mother possibly Jane; born: Unknown; died: unknown There is a Jane Stewart on the 1870 census for deBastrop twp, Ashley Co, AR Amanda Williams born 1823 in TN died 1905 in AR Married 1868 in Coahoma County, MS Child: John W. Stewart born March 18, 1874 died unknown Married December 5, 1892 in Ashley Co, AR Lula Mae Lindsey born 11/15/1874 died 1957 (parents were Harrison B. Am looking for information on: John Wellington Curran b. Sept 19, 1865 d. November 19, 1932 He lived in Wilmont, Ar and was buried in Parkdale, Ar. He was believed to be a Freewill Baptist minister at the time of his death. Any information from the Ashley GeneoResearchers would be appreciated (if available).
Hi Kathlynn, there is a book at the library in Crossett that can give you more details. The Carlock Cemetery is the one you want I suspect, but perhaps the other one too - it is the same cemetery that Polly (Bosely) Roberts is buried in - wife of William Roberts, who is buried in Webster County, MS - he was brother (? maybe ?) to Green B Roberts, My GGF on my Father's side. Anyways, if the librarians will look up Polly Roberts (wife of William Roberts buried in MS) as it says on the stone, then you will have the name of the cemetery - it slips my memory just now as to what the name is, but it is not any of the ones listed on the GNIS for the county for the North Crossett or Milo area - I looked! ha there were a lot of Poole's that were in old Choctaw Co, MS in the 1850 to 1880's - that is where most of this set came from I think, but I have not run that down specifically. also, you were asking about info from Goodspeed's a while back - I know that there is a copy that covers South Arkansas area - has Ashley, and Union Counties for sure, with others as well, but I don't recall all the counties - the library in El Dorado, AR has a copy of that. Page copies there cost 10 cents a page last I was there - a couple years ago now. additionally, I think there is a copy of that in the Bastrop, LA library as well - again, page copies cost 10 cents there as well. Last I was there both these libraries did limited copy work, but don't know the current policies. all the best, Herb Harris Kathlynn3@aol.com wrote: > > Thanks Herb, for the Paul Sullins- Crossett Library info. Thanks Herb, for the Paul Sullins- Crossett Library info. BTW I remember you telling me once that you thought there were Poole's buried in Old Carlock & Tyson cemeteries? Do you have any idea where I might find these cemetery records? Thanks Kathlynn
Hi Just to let the folks know that are researching lines here in Ashley Co - the staff of the Paul Sullins library in Crossett generally finds time to do copy requests - it cost me 25 cents per page last time I got some material copied there. Can't speak as to the Ashley County Library in Hamburg staff situation or policy as I never visited that location though I have lived in the county for many years. The email address for the public library in Crossett is psl@cei.net and the phone number is 870-364-2230 fax line 870-364-2231. They have always been very helpful for any research that I have done there. Additionally there have been meetings of the genealogical society at the library in Crossett - the librarians can tell you more as to what assistance might be obtained from that source as well. Looking for names and dates of DAVIS that are buried in the Zion Cemetery in Ashley County, Arkansas. Thank you for any information that you can provide. Linda
Seeking any info at all on my gg gandparents and g grandparents, and their descendants. My gg grandparents were John and Catherine Ann Shaw ARMSTRONG. On the 1850 Census for Ashley County, Mill Creek Township, John and 8 children were listed. Catherine Ann had died before the Census. The children, their ages, and places of birth were: Joseph Q. 27, NC Margaret,25, MS John S. 22, NC(myGGF) Thomas, 20, NC Robert 18, NC James, 15, MS Catherine, 13, MS Melissa, 6, MS We do not know whether Margaret, James, Catherine, or Melissa were children of John ARMSTRONG, nor do we know their last names, if they were not. We have been unable to find any trace of any of the above, after 1850, except or my great grandfather, John Shaw ARMSTRONG. John Shaw ARMSTRONG and his family are in the 1860 Census for Ashley County, Mill Creek Township, as: John S. 32, NC Melissa Ann, 25, MS George Q. 4, AR Bellzoriah Ann, 3, AR Sarah Elizabeth,8 months, AR John Shaw ARMSTRONG and Melissa Ann WADE were married in the Holly Springs Baptist Church, in Ashley County, on 12 December 1852. We have no info at all on Melissa Ann prior to her marriage, except that in the 1850 Census, Melissa Ann and her younger brother George WADE were lving with John and Elizabeth LAKE, and their family. Does anyone know anything at all about these ARMSTRONG's or WADE's who lived in Ashley County so long ago, or any of their descendants? Thank you. Louis K. Lyttle
