I have a photo and written on back: Hunter Poole & Otto Noble, South front of old home of Gus & Sally Poole. Also where Hunter & wife starting keeping house Jan 24 1915. My ancestors are Poole...Hunter's full name is Salust Hunter Poole [and his wife is Lora Gray Blakeley/Blakely they married in Ashley Co] son of Gus A Poole and Sallie Laura Sanderfer. My problem is the photo does not specify which man is Hunter. If there is anyone on the list that may be familiar with them or could possible identify either one... will you please contact me personally and I will send the photo to you. Man on right in photo appears to be a little taller and slenderer than the other .....and he either has a dark color beanie cap on his head or else has very dark colored hair that looks like a bowl was placed on his head and the lower part of hair was shaved off. Man on left is a little shorter with a brimmed hat that covers his entire head....my best guess is this is Hunter based on: Salust Hunter Poole-WW 1 Draft Registration Card has: Description of Registrant. Height: 5-9 Medium. Build: Medium. Color of Eyes: Gray. Color of Hair: Light & Bald....my best guess Hunter is the man on the right with the brimmed hat covering his head. I found no Draft Reg Card for Otto Noble, but Hunter's brother's cards have: Martin Meritt Poole, medium height, slender build, light brown eyes, dark brown hair; David Frierson Poole medium height, slender build, light brown eyes, dark brown hair; Sidney C .P. Poole medium height, medium build , blue eyes, light brown hair, bald [sic]. Thanks in advance for any help rendered. Kathlynn [in TX but from AR and AR lineages]
I am searching for information about my great, great, grand father Conway Hughes. He was born in Orange County, Virginia in April of 1830. He died on July 8, 1915 in White County. He may have been a slave in Virginia, but can't find any evidence of this. He has been listed as black in one census and as mulatto in another census. He may have moved around a lot. He was on a ship called the USS Prairie Bird during the Civil war. He was enlisted from 1863 to 1865. I am trying to fill in the gaps, since one census has him living in Virginia, another has him living in Arkansas, and still another has him living in Mississippi.
