Van Buren Press Van Buren, Arkansas- Crawford County July 27, 1889 A SERIOUS CHARGE Little Rock Gazette: Sheriff Shelby, of Conway County, is now in the city on business with the Governor and told a Gazette reporter Wednesday that he had under arrest at Morrilton, Clint Drummond and wife, colored, and a traveling doctor named Flood, charged with a very grave crime. The three were charged with committing an abortion on a colored school teacher, Martha Little of Morrilton. She was delivered of a child by foul means and by unskilled hands, which resulted in death to both child and mother, the victim of Drummond who attempted to conceal his guilt by this unnatural act. The Drummond's and the doctor, who has been in Morrilton only about 10 days, are in jail at that place held for murder. Fran Alverson Warren
