    3. Van Buren Press Van Buren, Arkansas -Crawford County June 29, 1889 AS STRANGE AS FICTION Fayetteville Democrat: Mrs. Gen. H. E. Williamson, wno with her husband is spending the summer at Uncle Zeb Pettigrew's tells a little war incident that is as strange as fiction. It occurred in Mississippi. General Williamson was with the confederate army in the Southern part of the State when three federal soldiers called at the Williamson mansion for breakfast which Mrs. Williamson did not hesitate to give them. Before leaving one of them asked her where her husband was and she told him. He replied that he was going down in that country and asked what he must tell her husband in case he met him. She said you have been very gentlemanly here and tell Henry, my husband, when he takes you prisoner not to be too hard on you." It turned out that same federal soldier was wounded in battle and was carried off the field by a confederate soldier whom he asked if he knew General Williamson. He told him he did and that the general was his brother in law. The wounded man requested that he be sent for an when General Williamson arrived he delivered the message sent by his wife. It is needless to add that the wounded federal soldier was kindly taken care of. He recovered from his wounds and is still alive and corresponds with the family to this day. Fran Alverson Warren
