To give you an idea of what gems can be found in this newspaper, I thought I would post one of the "shorter" obits. This particular newspaper is one of the best sources for obituaries in the the state. Oct. 28, 1903: WOMACK - Dorinda Womack was born August 23, 1823; professed religion in July, 1846; joined the M. E. Church, South, then, and was married to Lewis Mason, January 18, 1858; died September 17, 1903. She was a faithful worker in the church and the Woman's Missionary Society; was made a life member of the same July 18, 1890. She was faithful as a wife, mother and stepmother. She delighted in visiting and waiting on the sick, and we think she has heard the Savior say, "She had done what she could." So we sorrow not as having no hope. Her mind gave way two years ago, so she left no dying testimony, but we do not mind that. We know how she lived, and that is enough. I would say to all, "Let us live faithfully as she lived, and meet her where we will never say farewell. By: James W. There is a Larkin Road in Izard county near Melbourne. I have visited the old cemetery there a couple of times just to look at the old headstones. The cemetery is adjacent to an old Methodist Church. Maybe this is the location. Joan Bowman
Larkin is in Izard county near Zion, 6.5 miles north by north by northeast of Melbourne. It was a post office from 1894 until 1957.
