Janet asked: >Where would find the Arkansas Gazette or Arkansas Democrat? and Betty wrote: "Go to this for newspapers http://usnewspaperlinks.com" Janet and Betty: That link is for today's newspapers. You might contact the AR Gazette-Democrat listed at that site and see if they will do lookups in their old papers. The old Van Buren papers are not on the list. The AR History Commission has the index to the AR Gazette and has copies of the very old newspapers on microfilm. The Little Rock Main Library (down by the river) also has the microfilms of the old newspapers. The Ft. Smith library has almost all of the Van Buren and Ft. Smith papers of the old days in the Sebastian/Crawford area but I don't know if it has copies of the old AR Gazettes. I do know that the AR History Comm. does not do research for people. Perhaps the AR USGenWeb site has names of volunteers that will do research at Little Rock. I also do not know if the Little Rock library has lookup volunteers - it might be worth looking to see if it has a web site. I know that the Ft. Smith library does have a web site and does lookups for a base charge of $10, I believe, with charges of .25 for copies.. Regards, Nan Wolf 71532.734@compuserve.com
