Again, please keep in mind, that many of these are relatively new groups, but there's no better way to spread the news, than "word of mouth". A few people shared the news of our Newton County group, and it now has nearly 1,000 members, with lots of stories, photos, and family connections! Just another resource for researchers!! I have found records for possibly 2 men with this name who served in the Civil War in Arkansas. One is listed as a Confederate soldier, who was discharged in 1863; the other was listed as a Union soldier, who joined in the end of 1863. The man I am looking for was married to Catherine Garner. I only find records in Ancestry.com for one man with this name who lived in Arkansas at this time. Is it possible this man joined the Confederacy, then switched sides after he was discharged? Something you might consider is that a number of Confederate in Arkansas soldiers left the Confederacy and enlisted in the Union army in 1963 because the Union was paying an enlistment bonus. Quite a number of these men enlisted in the Union Army and then deserted and used the bonus to move their families to Texas. I know that dozens of men from Franklin County did this. Most went to Fayetteville to enlist, for some reason. Eldon J. According to the 1860 census in Conway, Larkin is the son of Isaac Prince and Lavenia Fincher Prince and his birth is about 1819-1820. He was mustered out of Helena on 10 June 1862 and transferred to St. Louis's Camp Benton where he died 26 Oct. 1862. His wife Isabella Caroline Kidd remarries in 1863. Because Larkin and William J sign up together and William J Prince is my great -grandfather who we don't know the lineage of, I assumed that the William J Prince that signs up with Larkin in Helena is my ancestor. Apparently Larkin has a son by that name also. I was trying to find the connection of Larkin and William but it sounds like it is just a coincidence that Larkin's son has the same name. My ancestor is present on the 1860 census but both he an hi! s wife are dead by 1870 and the children are living with an Eliza Warren of whom I can find no connection. Another dead end with my gene pool! LOL Thanks for replying, Lisa G. Montgomery Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In his widow's LA pension application she puts he enlisted as Joe Richardson July 1861 at Rolling Prairie in Carroll County as a private in company H Ark 3rd Regiment. I have not been able to find any service records for him. I found a website about the Ark 3rd and he was not listed under any company. Can anyone tell me if men who enlisted in Carroll county were put in the Ark 3rd or another regiment. The application says he served until the close of the war and that he was paroled at Shreveport (that's what I believe it says) and that he was still Company H 3rd Reg. Any help is appreciated.
