Chowne is a landed gentry family name in Sussex and Kent. Female family surnames that did not want to be lost in marriage were occasionally passed down as son's first names eg Bray, Spelzer in the Chowne family. I think I would be looking for Chowne Apps Chowne connection through a female line - mother or grandmother being a Chowne.
