I believed he went to the U.S. around 1878. He appeared in the 1880 census in Champion, Marquette County, although his surname was recorded (or transcribed) as HAPS. At that time, he was single and living with his half-brother, Simon KINSMAN and his family. By the 1900 census, he was living in Ironwood City, Gogebic County, married to Jane (since 1881) and had two children, Joseph H. and Olive. It appears that he was still living there as a widower in the 1940's. Joseph was the brother of my great-grandfather, Richard Henry Apps. I have their ancestry back to 1749 if you're interested.
