Author: perrott1955 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.apps/98.3.1.1.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found two Loveday THOMAS baptisms in Cornwall in the expected time frame: the first on November 22, 1724 in Ludgvan, with father Wiiliam; the second on March 14, 1727 in St Martin by Looe, with father Joseph. Neither parish is particularly close to St Endellion, although St Martin by Looe is the closer of the two. I'm not convinced that either of these girls is 'our' Loveday, as there were already THOMAS families living in Endellion during this period. More evidence is needed, I think. Looking at the APPS records for New Shoreham, Sussex, I noticed that Chowne and Elizabeth's son Derek (bpt. March 14, 1688) was buried on December 17, 1693, with a note saying "a Quaker, buried in the churchyard, without church burial." This makes me wonder whether the APPS might have been Quakers. I was aware that Josiah was a witness at a Quaker marriage in Cornwall in 1758 (see http://bit.ly/VMtGjB and look at item 43), although that by itself is not conclusive, since all wedding guests, including non-Quakers, could be witnesses. I took a quick look for other APPS Quaker links but couldn't find any, although this may be worth pursuing if someone has the time and resources. Happy searching, cousins!
