    3. Robin, Don't despair! A distant cousin in San Francisco and I searched all over for the birth of a Clement Richardson, son of Angelina Apps alias Barnes alias Richardson. I eventually found a register for the Rye, Sussex, Workhouse and there he was Clement Apps the son of Jemima Apps! Why weren't we looking for that all the time. We believe that Angelina and Jemima Apps were one and the same person. Clement was baptised on the same day as Angelina was buried. But that's another story. Don't give up. The 1901 census may shed some light, less than a month to go before it comes on-line. Talking of Apps - which was my mother's surname - another distant Apps cousin has sent me some Melbourne, Victoria, Australia register extracts which shows the family of William George Apps and Mary Ann Killick. They were married in 1857 and I believe had a family as follows William James Apps b. 1858 Coll'wood d. 1861 Melbourne Mary Margaret Apps b. 1860 Fitzroy m. 1884 to Frank Usher Edward Thomas b. 1861 m. 1881 Jane Tyrie 4 children Sarah Ann Apps b. 1863 Collingwood William George b. 1865 Fitz. d. 1866 Fitz. Arthur Apps b. 1866 Fitz. Alfred Apps b. 1868 C'wood d. 1869 Fitz. George William Apps b. 1869 Rachel Apps b. 1870 d. 1871 Bertha Amelia Apps b. 1872 Walter Montgomery Apps b. 1873 d 1874 Eliza Apps b.1876 d. 1874 Infant mortality rate looks quite high, I don't know if that was common in Australia at that time. Does anyone know of either the parents I am interested in both names! Best Regards, Clive Killick 7 Goodliffe Gardens, Tilehurst, Reading RG31 6FZ. William came to Canada with Charles in the 1850's. Thomas died at age 15 and is buried in East Sussex. Alfred lived in London, and I have the name of his children (no James). Albert stayed on the family farm, and I have names of his children too. There is no James Apps in the family tree - not back to the late 1700's anyhow. Mary

    3. Len, I think Willersham should be Wittersham. It is only a few miles north and a little west of Rye, on the Isle of Oxney. I have the following noted: Descendants of George Apps Generation No. 1 1. GEORGE APPS was born Bef. 1793. He married SARAH [APPS]. She was born Bef. 1795. Child of GEORGE APPS and SARAH [APPS] is: 2. i. WILLIAM APPS, b. c. 9 Aug 1811, Wittersham, KEN. Generation No. 2 2. WILLIAM APPS (GEORGE) was born c. 9 Aug 1811(see note below) in Wittersham, KEN. More About WILLIAM APPS: Baptism: Wittersham, KEN Occupation: 1851, Grocer, aged 39 of Landgate, Rye, SSX. He is noted as being Married, but there is no reference to his wife in the Census. (Landgate is a street, running down from the Landgate which is the only remaining gateway from the time when Rye was surrounded by a town wall - It was also the name of my House at School. I went to Secondary School in Rye) Child of WILLIAM APPS is: i. SARAH APPS, b. c. 1835, Brookland, KEN. More About SARAH APPS: Occupation: 1851, Milliner, aged 16. I am very doubtful about the accuracy of William's date of Birth, I think it is his baptism, not his birth date. That needs checking. There is a James Sellman in the 1851 Census for Rye. Sellman, James Son of John (Age 48, Farmer, on the Winchelsea Road, Rye, SSX, of 55 acres, Born Playden) and Charlotte (Age 40 born Playden) Can't find someone to fit the 1881 Census but there is: Dwelling: King Street Census Place: Rye, Sussex, England Source: FHL Film 1341241 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 1017 Folio 87 Page 2 Marr Age Sex Birthplace William APPS M 69 M Willersham, Sussex, England Rel: Head Occ: Grocer Charlotte APPS M 70 F Playden, Sussex, England Rel: Wife Anna SELLMAN U 24 F Rye, Sussex, England Rel: Grand Dau I don't know where King St is in Rye. 2. I have very little info on the Apps Family as yet. We believe James Apps b 1857 Bearsted, Kent married Emma Holdstock b. 1862 Harrietsham, Kent. We have been told his father was Samuel but have not confirmed it yet. Emma and 9 children came to Canada in the early 1900's. If I get any more info I will let you know. Barbara
